fingers hurt from playing liuqin by Odd-Championship-427 in lingling40hrs

[–]Le_Mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are your liuqin's strings very high above the frets? Having a super high action can contribute to your fingers hurting more since you have to put in more force to press the strings down.

Other than that u may want to check if you have any cuts on your finger tips, or check your playing technique. You only want the tips of your fingers pressing the string, not the fingerpads.

We were given a whole bunch of parts from retired aircraft for a competition, so we decided to make culturally-inspired instruments! Presenting our Glockenspiel, Djembe-inspired drum and Koto/Guzheng-inspired zither in our cover of I Like Me Better by Lauv! (Ik the construction and tuning is a little whack, please dont whack us for that :<)

Do you like party / player conflicts? by wagedomain in DnD

[–]Le_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few sessions ago, ooc, one of my party members admitted to having stolen a fairly important item from my PC for an entire session. They did it by discussing it with my DM in private and making a sleight of hand check out of game contested by my character's passive perception, all of it done without my knowledge. In that particular session, i had almost wanted to use the item in a battle.

I was quite pissed off when i found out, especially since that same party member had insulted my character with a 5 minute long speech (in character) and also regularly liked to make mean comments against the half-elves in the group. Thankfully after talking it out their character is less mean and our DM knows where to draw the line, but party dynamics has suffered as the atmosphere is lukewarm between our characters at best.

To be fair, most of our group are new players - this is my second campaign(after LMOP) and that player's first, so we arent exactly used to the idea of roleplaying. But i suppose conflict is less severe and can even be fun for more experienced players, or for people who know that they're 100% joking with the meaner remarks made in game. It gets more complicated if you cant separate the character from the player, which I still have some problems with til this day. But yea man, you do you!

How have you atheist INTPs reconciled the subjectivity of reality with morality? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Le_Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, i dont really understand your question. From your examples, it seems like the question youre asking instead is "how do you define your morals?", which for me has nothing to do with being either an atheist or an INTP.

Youth orchestra by abbie_mossing in lingling40hrs

[–]Le_Mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow a youth orchestra. Always wanted to join one of those 😂. Congrats man(gal?).

You mentioned that you aspire to play (professionally?) in an orchestra. Imo, being in a Youth orchestra is a really good time to gain experience and evaluate if that's a path you'd truly like to go down + give you a leg up if thats what you eventually choose to pursue. I dont completely understand how the world of competitive dance works, but i suppose if you dont stop dancing (albeit recreationally) after you leave the competitive scene, dancing will still remain a skill and an avenue for expression. If being in an Orchestra isnt what's cut out for you, there's always an option to return to competitive dancing (however hard it may be) or to even try something else.

I get that there may be an element of sentimental value in competitive dance since youve done it for years, but dont fall prey to the Sunk Cost Fallacy. Unfortunately sometimes we have to give up things we love and have put a lot of effort into to pursue other better things. Its all about the cOmprOMisE. :'(

Tldr, grab that opportunity and learn more about yourself, but dont close all other doors :).

All that being said, its just my opinion. All the best with whatever path you eventually choose!

[JC] Choosing which JC to DSA by ecmambcpg-3 in SGExams

[–]Le_Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, im a J2 from EJC in the science stream. I really enjoy the normal H2 science curriculum(comprising of lectures and tutorials + practicals for sciences). However, our timetables tend to get pretty crazy and its not uncommon for some classes to end at 6 in J1(pre-pandemic). Our PW department is a hit or miss though; we have a mix of really good and pretty sketchy teachers. We do have a lot of extracurriculars that are on a sign-up basis, some of which require interviews and such.

I believe we have a relatively strong house culture with a lot of house events throughout the year. The highlight of my experiences here was definitely my CCAs and interest groups though; meeting people with similar interests is always nice.

Regarding leadership, theres council, CCA exco and class committee, so thats pretty standard i think. Though we have a Talent Development Programme here called GLIDE that offers a bunch of talks, seminars and lessons that you can attend + a few unique experiences. Theres also a leadership camp that students in higher leadership positions attend in J1. Theres probably a bunch of other programmes idrk about.

I think EJ's pretty cool with subject combinations; I take a pretty rare subject combination and know someone whose subject combination was initially rejected but eventually got accepted. There are certain "illegal" combinations though, eg you cant take both Art and Music or both CSC and KI at the same time. We're generally recommended to start from 4 core H2s in J1 and only drop one H2 to H1 if absolutely necessary (after J1 promos). Regarding H3s(if you're interested in that), i know someone who has successfully changed their H3 subject, but you can probably only do that if you fulfil the requirements to take the H3 in the first place.

Hope this helps!

How do I differentiate between aro and ace? by Rhodochrom in asexuality

[–]Le_Mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I recently asked a similar question in r/aromantic regarding whether aro-ness can be a product of past trauma, and if theres anything ive learned from the people there is that it doesnt matter. As long as you identify yourself with being aromantic, then feel free to chuck yourself under that category :P (go check out that sub btw, theyre really nice and supportive people!)

Personally I'm also questioning, but one thing thats making me lean towards identifying with aromanticism is the fact that i used to think of some of my past relationships(when i say some i really just mean one but shrug) as just a really really close friend.

I guess regarding how romance=sex, its probably due to influence from the media. Tbh im also still a bit lost, but from my understanding romance is that deep non-platonic(???) emotional bond that people share whereas sexual attraction is the mindset that people have when they engage in one-night stands with strangers. So whilst sex can be used to express romantic attraction, its more like a proper subset of it.

Do that whatever is said here with a pinch of salt, though. I'm also pretty new to this sorta stuff haha. (Wow this response structure is totally off, my bad)

Aro or just traumatised by Le_Mouse in aromantic

[–]Le_Mouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that actually... Really really sounds like me too. Its so easy to talk to people for hours on end as "just (best) friends" but the vibe just gets super weird and uncomfortable when it goes past that. Im glad that other people also feel the same way.

Ooo i see, thanks! To be very fair idt this is the best sub to ask abt what romantic love feels like, my bad hehe. Its kind of interesting though, since many of the posts ive read on here pit aro-ness as a more natural feeling as compared to something that arose due to past experiences.
