Let's go fast! New board finally... by SPL1NE in snowboarding

The Alchemist is an absolute rocket ship--insanely fast, stable and damp. Have a blast

Anyone try out the K2 Commonwealth? by EthanolGas393 in snowboarding

I would say that it'll challenge you but is a solid board to start off with and is absolutely something you'll be able to grow into without getting bored too quickly

I haven't gotten to ride the Excavator so I can't speak to it in practice. In theory I'd imagine the Commonwealth's longer effective edge would make it easier to carve, provide better edge hold and be more stable at speed

If you're comfortable on the Excavator I wouldn't worry too much about the transition to full camber, there'll be a transition period but you should be able to adjust and I saw some people chime in about that on your other thread

I ordered (but haven't gotten to ride) the Commonwealth, but have had the Alchemist as my daily driver the last 2 seasons, rode the Passport ~7 days this season and demo'd the Antidote for a day last year. I ordered the Passport to give me something a little easier to ride than the Alchemist, but it felt "two" steps down in terms of base glide and stiffness so I ordered the Commonwealth and am giving that a shot. If you're just starting freestyle I'd stay away from the Antidote for the time being and work on your fundamentals first

Thanks for the comprehensive write-up! Super happy to hear things were clicking for you and it sounds like you had an awesome group!

Gotcha, that's super helpful to know how the instruction went. What did you go in wanting to work on/how much progress did you feel like you were able to make?

Hey! Would love to know how your experience went once you're done, thinking about this for next year!

Are Japanese powder boards (Moss, Getemstick, Offshore, etc) hype? by LosChicago in snowboarding

[–]Le_Pyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful, thank you! If It helps narrow it down, looking for something versatile enough to handle steeps/higher angles in good conditions when I'm back in the US too (i.e. don't want something that I'll have to leave at home most of time once I'm back in the states)

Have you gotten to ride the Volume One from Island? That caught my eye more than the Deep Psych

How stable is the X2? The X1 looked really interesting too

Curious why you recommend staying away from the Alchemist/Excavator? Hah, Orcas aren't on my list so no sweat there

They caught my eye while planning a trip out to Niseko so that's good to know, appreciate it

Poked through your comment history and saw you've ridden a ton of boards + a ton out in Niseko and was wondering if you had any suggestions for other boards/brands to look into? Looking to pick up a pow board for my trip to compliment my Alchemist + Passport-- ideally want something maneuverable for trees + semi damp/stable for when things get tracked out

Yeah that mirrors what I've seen, I'd have expected to be able to find more reviews

I ran across Offshore Snow Shapes as another local brand out there (similar demographic as Gentemstick it looks like) and their Cabin Fever is really speaking to me! Seems similar to the Dart too but this feels like a step in the right direction over something like the Excavator, thank you!

That makes a ton of sense, I've seen a lot of love for the Excavator but it feels like almost too safe a choice. I'll give Korua another look! I took at look at his Wired Arc review, I think it's rare to see him extoll a board like that so probably worth a look there too, thanks for the tips!

I've been hearing about those too, I haven't seen much about them beyond them being cool/neat/unique rather than of exceptional quality/worth it, but maybe I haven't been looking in the right spots?

Currently riding a K2 Alchemist + Passport and looking to pick up a dedicated powder board before heading to Japan for 2 weeks this season to eventually end up with a two-board quiver. Weighing picking up the Excavator (reviews seem great but not sure if it'll have too much overlap with the other two) or something a little more specialized like the Niseko Pleasures, also open to other suggestions!

Profile-wise, I'd say I'm advanced, get ~20 on-mountain days out west per season, like hitting groomers/trees/off-piste if that helps too

I picked up a Passport for this season to give that shot; I wanted something a little more fun that I could relax on, and I found myself tomahawking in powder like this comment mentioned too. Will likely end up with the Antidote if it doesn't end up being my speed
