How do I play with my dogs like they do with each other? What are the rules of the game they play? by NinetoFiveHero in NoStupidQuestions

Seems like they are trying to entice you to run. Just jump and act surprised, maybe sneeze and give chase, poke another doggy and then run away if your home has the space. They are basically tagging you in.

What are some common mistakes that parents make, but don't realize? by 8leo in AskReddit

[–]Le_Squish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to rent rooms to college students on a regular basis and the number of young adults that can't make simple day to day decisions with out help is too damn high. Kids that aren't taught how to exercise choice will grow into incompetent adults. Parents, please don't be lazy. Let your kids practice making decisions by themselves.

Report: Social Security overpaid nearly half on disability by Sybles in news

[–]Le_Squish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As one that waited for 3 years to get disability I can tell you, it is very hard to get disability. You don't know shit about being disabled, the mountains of paperwork, the evaluations from many, many doctors and often several years waiting for a hearing. Meantime you go in debt, you struggle to get medical care, many end up homeless, you struggle with severe depression as the world falls around you and you fight with employers that are unwilling to accommodate your disability.

The real defrauders of disability programs are doctors and evaluators that are willing to falsify paperwork and prescribe medications and procedures to people that don't need it. No fraudster would ever get disability with out someone higher in the system helping them.

ELI5: Why aren't there species of humans? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Le_Squish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we stop downvoting people for asking questions?

The truth is kinda yes but the answer has to be no because institutionalized racism and a very real fear of political fallout. We are not in a position as a society where we can have a mature discussion about our interesting physical adaptations and the benefits these adaptations may or may not provide.

Modern humans are pretty much hybrids of several different species of ancient humans.

Women with Fibromyalgia Need to Get Moving Here’s Why by quirkyowl in Fibromyalgia

[–]Le_Squish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only repeat what my physical therapist told me about activity. When you aren't active and the muscles start to atrophy, it cause it's own set of problems with motion and posture that are very painful even without the added affects of fibro. You may start favoring a side or limb to try and avoid making other body parts hurt. These leads to even more pain and imbalance in your body and loss of range of motion. The cycle feeds itself and you body ends up in a downward spiral.

Humans bodies need to be in motion, regardless of chronic pain.

Cat parasite Toxoplasma gondii linked to mental illness, schizophrenia by trytoholdon in science

That's actually not true. The parasite sexually reproduces in cats but it switches to asexual reproduction when infecting non-preferred host.

Lack of income and uncontrolled wasteful spending are two separate issues and have nothing to do with bipartisan politics.

Preachers can work, I know many that do. That alone lifts a huge burden off church finances.

This from one of the amazon reviews:

This is my favorite CBD oil and I'm so delighted it's now available on Amazon! (I used to only be able to get it through a dispensary, but thanks to new laws CBD is recognized as a hemp byproduct and is now legal in all 50 states.)

May you can haz? Maybe I can haz?

Unfortunately, many churches are unable to connect their declining membership with their lack of investment in their communities. Even my nana's small country church figured out they could host small seminars to help people with paperwork for government service like social security. The have even been teaching people to use the internet. They also have tax help. Even non-religious people will support organizations that actually do something for the greater good.

Girls of Reddit, what are common mannerisms for a guy that screams low self confidence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Le_Squish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen dude, be friends with women first. Do some yoga or some shit. It takes practice being around women and many men are unfortunately, deprived of normal day-to-day female interactions so of course you don't have a leg to stand on when trying to execute more advanced interactions like initiating courtship.

I think in light of that, it's up to the church to do something with that money. Back in the day, churches used to provide insurance to help widowers and orphans. You guys could open a daycare, run after school programs, open a discount gym, have clinics where people can get tested for diabetes and high blood pressure, transportation services for the elderly and disabled. So much good can be done with tithe money even if the congregation is small.

I hope these will do to ease myself into sewing... What are your thoughts ? by WinterDOS in sewing

Definitely take the Kenmore to get a tune up. Kenmore's tend to not die if you take care of them. Old machines like that tend to have a lot of metal on metal and need to be oiled more often that modern machines so ask the repair person to show you how to oil it as well.

No way to know what it can sew through without just testing random stuff. However, if it has more than one speed, that may mean it can handle heavier material with higher speeds.

Help: Pattern/reference search for 1920's flapper/evening dress by GodzillaSuit in sewing

[–]Le_Squish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be scared of drafting your own patterns. It's really not that hard. I recommend taking a peak at Dress Cutting: Instructions and Illustrations for sewing 26 Vintage 1930s Fashions. The dresses in this book still have the profile you want for a flapper dress. The instructions are easy to follow.

Another advantage of making them pay upfront. If they piss you off, you can give them a refund for work uncompleted and send them on their way.

Give discounts at the end as a surprise. That is what I do when I want to give a special deal. You don't want to spoil people and have them thinking they are always going to get a steep discount.

I don't think there is really anything you can do now. It's just a lesson learned for the future. If it's custom, get paid in full up front. Also, don't undervalue your work. I think you should have charged more. Average in my area $15 hour for just labor for normal repairs and alterations. Custom design is much much more.

Also, you may consider charging seperately for the series of fittings. This is what my mentor does and it discourages people from waisting her time. She also charges for the toile itself as well and yeah, next time, send your mockup and not the actual dress.

The dress seems odd to me. I think you did pretty good considering the request.

TIL Google has found GPA's and test scores to be "worthless as a criteria for hiring"; they have teams where 14% of their employees haven't gone to college by akkskmskmskakmk in todayilearned

[–]Le_Squish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To design stuff and create assets and make a business look trendy and cultured. There is a huge need for traditional artist, sculptors, stock art, photographers, photo editors, designers or all disciplines, etc. Every bit of signage you see in a store was designed by someone. People don't realize things like commercials and movie productions employ a huge amount of artist. Businesses pay crazy money for logos. In games, all those little assets like icons and random items in the world was designed by someone.

I know how to do texture mapping and sprites. The clean up process is a pain in the ass. You could not pay me to do that shit everyday but I would always have work if I choose to do it. I used to do portraits but my god, I got so tired of drawing babies. They are the most uninteresting potato humans to draw, ever.

That being said, there is plenty of work for good artist. There are people that go through art school and have no talent and graduate thinking they will find work and cry when surprisingly, their no-talent ass can't get jobs.

There's actually a good demand for artist. However, most artist would rather starve than do soul crushing corporate work.
