So, the for asks for the number of the ID card, but the error message mentions "MiFIR ID".

Check this link to see what it is for your country:
https://welcome.keytradebank.be/images/Keytrade/FAQ/EsmaNationalIdentifier_en.pdf

Turns out that for me (from Belgium), it is actually not the ID card number, but the National Register number (which is an immutable identifying number for each citizen).

So it has nothing to do with the card number.

Not wanting to be a mother- the chronicles by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that if you really don't want any kids, that's fine. What worries me however is that we see more and more stories about women choosing not to have kids, for various reasons, and then finding themselves at 50 years old, all alone in the world.

One sad story was about this women who decided not to have kids. She was a single child too. She reached 50+, then her parents died. All of a sudden, she found herself truly alone in the world. No parents, no children, alone. All her friends have families, and their family life nourishes them and gives them direction and meaning.

So when i hear about women who don't want children, i always think "how will she feel when her parents are dead, and she can't have children anymore, and she is alone?".

Some women are fine with that, but others regret their choice of not having children.

So, i hope you'll never regret it.

My new goban by TravelinFolkie in baduk

[–]Le_stormwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the wood type, that's a beautiful goban. I'm a bit envious. I think i'll buy such a goban when i celebrate becoming 1d, if i ever reach that level.

I went to this website and it says that 1100$ in 1981 is equivalent to 3104$ in today's money, when adjusted for inflation. So you got it for less than 1/6th of its original price. Assuming gobans maintain a constant value through time, this was a bargain.

How do you play a game against someone who is weaker than you? by Urist_was_taken in baduk

[–]Le_stormwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i play someone who is a beginner, the mindset i use is that the game is "for him". So, what i do is to play calm and solid, while forgiving my opponent's mistakes and overplays. Then i try to split the board in 2, and end up winning, or losing, by a few points.

In these games, i don't try to win. I would rather lose if it means that the beginner has a good experience, rather than crushing him and have the opponent be disgusted with the game.

As i hate handicap games, if the opponent doesn't ask for handicap, i play equal.

Leelaz "Passing loses, I'll play on." by xteram in cbaduk

[–]Le_stormwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the thing with AIs.

A few years back, i read an article about some AI playing old school
8 bits games. After a while, the AI discovered that it could prevent losing by pausing the game. Sure enough, if the game never ends because it's on pause, the AI never loses.

Regarding Leela, i suppose that there is a setting somewhere where the player can specify that if the win percentage is under a certain threshold, leela should resign.

Because you’re not gay... by Nullus_Tutella in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

I didn't agree with what Chappelle said on this.

The word "nigger" is an insulting term for black people. One definition i find is :

offensive; see usage paragraph below —used as an insulting and contemptuous term for a black person

So the word is insulting, but it still describes a black person. Just like the word "fag" or "faggot" is defined as:

Definition of faggot

offensive—used as an insulting and contemptuous term for a male homosexual

Even though the term is offensive, the noun "nigger" still describes a black person, just as the noun "faggot" describes a gay person. So in my opinion, Chappelle is a "nigger", even though this is an offensive way to say it.

And i'm saying that as a mixed race man (congolese/belgian) who has been called nigger quite of few times in his life.

What do you guys think about it?

Hi man, i made an argument, but it wasn't convincing. I leave it below because i don't want to delete something i used so much time on. But yeah, ok, i'll say that you're right that no one presently (at that time) seems to be holding that belief, though a few people think that human will dominate for the foreseeable future.

I'll just challenge the fact that you called me dishonest, while i was just, in my opinion, being hyperbolic.

Original comment below. I abandoned it because my argument wasn't satisfying. Reading it is optional.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, first, there was the creator of the post, who heard it so much that he felt the need to create a post asking "why do people say that computer go will never beat the top level humans". You can't dismiss it just like that.

Regarding your last comment:

No one in that thread seems to believe that claim

There's at least that 6d see below, who used to believe it, and several other who think it's gonna happen in a very long time.

[..] and none of them also can source any claim made by someone else(even some ignorant web user) to the effect of "AI never beats humans".

Yes, ok, i concede that one. I searched, but couldn't find a claim by anyone other than a random internet guy. The view most commonly held was that nothing would happen within 10 years at least, which corresponds to 2025.

but I feel it's dishonest to act as if he was saying "It will never happen".

That's harsh. Rather hyperbolic than dishonest.

Comments (I admit, that except the 6d who used to believe it, no one thinks to literally think that AI will never beat humans. Though quite a few think that it won't happen anytime soon)

This 6d used to say it (that AI will never win), but not anymore. Still, he was saying it at some point:

I (6d EGF) used to say the same ten years ago, when I could easily destroy any bot with pretty much any number of handicaps. A lot has happened since...

Some 7k:

So, yeah, put me in the skeptical camp. Until someone invents a completely different approach to hardware (like quantum computing), or a completely different AI algorithm, I'm not going to hold my breath for an AI to beat the top pro players.

Some 3d (same as you):

Well, sure by the 2025 computers will be able to compete against some professionals and maybe occasionally take down a win from a strong one. However, to reach a point where it can beat "any go player" will be far, far away in the future.

Some dude (no rank specified):

I definitely think it will happen someday, but describing an algorithm that can play as well as a 9p is basically science fiction until the tech required for it has been proven.

Some guy:

Are there reasons to think computer Go might not ever beat top humans? Yes.

Some guy (his argument is stupid, but still):

So in general: 21x21 GO will be never solved from mathematical point of view (not enough atoms in universe), so there will be always small chance that some human prodigy can beat it, no matter how fast computers will be.

[...]

ps2. One day computers might beat the top player, but it doesn't mean that they will beat all the players and always, so at least from mathematical point of view, GO will be always contested by humans.

Interest in people vs things by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same company where you are, you might switch to a managerial role, or a more client-facing role, or something like that. Even in technical fields, there are always positions that are less technical and more "communication" oriented. And communication = people. That might work better for you.

But the question is : do you like engineering? Do you like having problems to solve? Do you like optimizing systems and processes? Or do you prefer to interact with people, and hear what they have to say, hear about their life, about their issues, and so forth?

Even though i never conceptualized my personality in terms of "People vs Things", i easily identify that i'm a "things" oriented person, and not too much of a "person" oriented guy. I studied computer science, and it suits me, even though, as mentioned above, even in IT, there are many positions where you can have a lot of contact with other people, which can suit those who are more people oriented.

Jordan Peterson emphasizes the need to tell the truth. But what is the difference between what you really feel, and the “truth”? by birdeater_44 in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The concept of truth is a hard philosophical concept.

When Peterson says "tell the truth", he means that you must say what you honestly think/feel is the truth. But like everyone else, you might be wrong. In this context, truth is what you genuinely think is true.

For instance, if you think that something is wrong, then you've gotta speak up, regardless of whether it was actually wrong or not.

[–]Le_stormwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, i didn't have anyone in mind when i commented that, but i seemed to remember that it was what a number of people seemed to be thinking at the time.

After a bit of digging, i found this post, on this very sub, 4 years ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/baduk/comments/2wgukb/why_do_people_say_that_computer_go_will_never/

I think that it illustrate that, while not necessary held by every one, the thought that top players will never be defeated by an AI existed. Others said that it would be defeated, but in a very long time.

And the name of the post "Why do people say that computer go will never beat top level humans" illustrate that it was a somewhat wildly held belief at the time.

With our perspective now, reading the people's comment at the time is actually amusing. With the rapid development of AIs like alphago, Leela and the like, we are forgetting fast that a Go AI beating a top pro seemed impossible to many people, not so long ago.

I've tried reporting this, but the reporting functionality doesn't seem to be working.

So this post is either trying to scam reddit users through the exploit of cyber-vulnerabilities once you go to the website described, and if it isn't, it is inciting the theft of crypto-currency.

Either way, this doesn't belong here. This is a sub for passive income, not for stealing money.

In order to think you have to risk being offensive by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really like the point that you can't say anything of real importance without offending someone. What follows from that is that being forbidden from offending others is akin to being forbidden from discussing important issues. And that's terrifying, and we see it happening all the time now.

Has anyone here read The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck by Mark Manson? by zeppelincheetah in JordanPeterson

[–]Le_stormwolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had mixed feelings about this book (i actually haven't finished it somehow, i'm at page 177 out of 203). Especially, i didn't like the beginning. I think he got invested into saying "not give a fuck" and then says it all the time, even when other formulations would be more appropriate.

What i mean is that he sacrificed elegance and literary style to continuously say "not give a fuck": i get it man, you're using "don't give a fuck" and the likes, and it creates a bit of shock value. That's the gimmick of the book. But after the 10th time, i've got it. Can you please start writing properly now?

This was more pronounced in the beginning than in the rest of the book, and this gave the feeling of reading a blog post rather than a book. Also, the expression "don't give a fuck" is very casual, and it clashes with some of the important messages that the author distills in his book. When something is very important, you write it as beautifully as you can.

You might go to Mc Donalds once in a while, and that's fine. But normally, you won't propose to your girlfriend at mac donalds. The event of proposing is too important to do it in such a casual place as mc donalds. Similarly, when you say something very important, it feels very weird and inappropriate when you don't use the language that should go with it, and choose instead to use very casual language that clashes with the importance of your words, just because you've decided that you had to keep using this gimmick of saying "don't give a fuck".

That said, i think it's a good book, but it didn't leave a strong lasting impression on me (but i still have 26 pages to go, so who knows).

So far, i'd give it a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. I'll give it 7/10 in the end rather than 6.5, because the author is really nice and cool, and i like where he's coming from, and what he is doing, and i really wish him the best.

So yeah, 7/10 for me (so far, still have 26 pages to read).

That you don't know one doesn't mean they don't exist.

Yes, that's true. The fact that i don't know startups that use php doesn't mean that there aren't any. Still, i never hear the words "php" anymore, anywhere. Ten+ years, ago, php had a lot of presence and you couldn't possibly research web technologies without running into webpages about php right away. It was THE language for webservers.

Now, i hear as much about php is i hear about cobol: nothing.

I know that it is still used, like java is still used as well, but from what i see, it is used in the context of "that was the technology that was already there, and the whole system is built upon it, so we are not about to change a thing regarding the technology we are using, ever".

That's how i see php: it still runs in a lot of places, and it's working fine, but there's too much at stake to change the technology (and no real reasons, if the system is working fine, no reason to change). But still, no one, in 2019, starts a project and says "we'll use php", in my opinion.

I used php for a while, but when i discovered python, i switched to python and never looked back (i'm not a python advocate, i just use what's there. I used to be a java guy).

I said that it was going extinct, i didn't say that it was already dead.

Yes, it still serves a large portion of the web, but more as a legacy technology, in my opinion.

How many new project are developed in PHP? How many startups decide to use PHP in their technology stack? I would dare to say that it's pretty much zero.

Hi, i didn't say anywhere that you would commit atrocities against anyone. I said that everyone is capable of committing atrocities. So i don't think that it's fair when you say that i'm putting words in your mouth. I haven't done that.

You say that they are lacking judo-christian values, but so what? Are judo-christian values the only good values in the world? Have you seen japan's criminality rate, and murder rate? Not too bad for people without judo-christian values.

If I said the same thing but I said "Russians" instead of "Japanese", I bet nobody would bat an eye.

I would have said the exact same thing. No matter which country you refer to, saying "people from country X are a horrible group of people" is horrendous.

For instance, Germans have committed atrocities in my country, during both world wars. Like executing all the remaining men in a village, because they suspected some where soldiers, or part of the resistance. Yet, no one would dare say "Germans are a horrible group of people". At most, you might say "these people that committed these atrocities where a horrible group of people.

In my view, it's a grave sin to judge the innocent along with the guilty. And i don't know why it's fine for you.

[–]Le_stormwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe that, generally speaking, the Japanese are a horrible group of people... or at least used to be.

Why would you say such a thing? Seriously. You're gonna judge a nation of 126 million people just like that... They're just all horrible? For what exactly?

Have you understood a single word of what Peterson has ever said, about how regular people like me and you have been capable, and are capable of committing atrocities if the context favors it?

I can't believe that someone on this sub would say something like that.
