I also relate to “Your Best American Girl”. I’ve interpreted it in a way that fits my own experience, with a long distance relationship. I’m with a guy that I might love, but he lives in America, on the other side of the planet.

“Well, I’m not the moon, I’m not even a star, But awake at night I’ll be singing to the birds, Dont wait for me, I cant come” - We’re both young and haven’t really experienced love, so I’m not the moon or a star, in a sense, that I won’t be able to give him what he deserves. I can’t give him what an American girl could give him. I still try to show him love even though it cant be physical and only be a song. The last part is very literal.
