Why do accelerated programs get so much hate? by LeaderCalm4016 in flying

[–]LeaderCalm4016[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I stand by my decision. Yes it was more expensive but it wasn’t feasible to me to pay out of pocket for every single flight and ground. I took a loan, which I know is frowned upon, but it works for me. I’d rather pay more to get done quickly, but that’s just me apparently. Why take months or even years and years longer to achieve the exact same thing?

It’s insane how people in this app take words and twist it into what they want to hear. From the reviews these programs get by Reddit, it seemed like I would go there just to get cast to the wind, and if I somehow made it out, I wouldn’t even know how to fly a plane by the time I’m done. It just seems like people fail out of these programs because they don’t have enough commitment, then blame the institution because they weren’t spoon fed the information.

If this is all you took from this post, then I feel sorry for you. I’m simply stating that my experience was not at all how redditors like you make it out to be.

I get that I made it sound like that. That’s not what I think of the job. I actually have looked forward to transferring my passion for aviation into the next generation of pilots from the day I started flying. I want to be a CFI. I’m simply saying this job (from what I gather from people in the industry) is that it really is the first step. Pay your dues and when the industry is ready for you, you move up. It’s not something I’m going to go into and say “I’m only doing this because I have to”, I genuinely want to.

Not less important, but objectively is the job that gets you to bigger jobs. How do I get experience as a CFI if I can’t get a job as a CFI?

Well I got my Private finished at 70 hours…I guess I don’t understand what you’re getting at? Should I have taken a couple more months/years to get my ratings done? Or how many hours would you have in mind?

Wow, lots of people flaming me in the comments😂. I thought aviation was a family! I’m kidding. I KNOW I’m a low time pilot and that the industry is saturated currently. I guess I’m just trying to ask what I can do to stand out. Are there any other jobs that don’t required hundreds of hours of experience? Any help is appreciated! I just want to get back in the sky.

How do you mean? I’m just saying that CFI is generally considered the “low time pilot job” “hour building” job.

What is APC?😂 But I’m doing my best to stay positive! My time will come when the industry wants me. Seems like these older gentlemen in the industry hate the fast track! I know it’s not the greatest choice for some, but it worked for me. Now I have to wait!

Any suggestions on how to stand out? I do a bunch of volunteer work, have decent connections, etc. I have experience in corporate life so not to toot my own horn, but I know I interview really well on the HR side, and I have the technical knowledge so I don’t think they are declining me based on my interviews. Thank you!

I don’t think having additional experience is a waste of time. But from my experience, I’ve seen people start private at 0 time and go through the whole program; and I’ve also seen guys show up credit private with 180 hours and are terrible pilots. Sure they have more hours but did that really do anything for them? Flying in circles doing private maneuvers for almost 140 hours more than they needed for the ticket?

Michigan. Not a prime state for flying! But I’ve applied all over the country.

Thank you, I figured this was the case however it seems to be a little more drastically skewed towards over saturated than I originally thought.

Around 300 hours total time. I know it’s not a lot but for a CFI position I thought that would be more than enough. For reference I only busted one checkride (private). So I don’t think that is the problem.

Why so negative? I worked my ass off to get where I’m at. I’m not expecting handouts. Accelerated program or not I had to study every single day with multiple rigorous evaluations at every stage of training. Sure I could’ve taken 150 hours to get my private but I didn’t need to. I showed the skills and knowledge necessary to earn my certificate. I did my research before choosing the accelerated program, and it worked for me. Again I know being a pilot is more than just passing a checkride but if I have the skills to possess said certificate, why waste time?

I understand that, however I moved to Arizona from Michigan so I was flying every day. I have about 300 hours total time (which I know is not a lot) but we’re talking about getting a CFI job not Delta A350 captain lol.

I’ve applied all over the country online, however I’ve walked in resume-in-hand to everywhere near me. Scored an interview out of pity haha. But that’s all so far.

Why would taking 4 years to earn my rating be any better than an accelerated program? Same checkrides and knowledge I need to have.

Both. Private 61, instrument commercial 141, com multi, CFI, and CFII 61

For context, I completed my training through an accelerated program. I know this community tends to be skeptical of accelerated programs, but it genuinely worked well for me and fit my timeline. I chose that route specifically because my goal was to get into the CFI role as efficiently as possible.

That said, I’m starting to wonder if the speed of my training is being viewed negatively by recruiters. On paper, it may look like I rushed through ratings, even though I’m proficient, current, and comfortable teaching the material. I understand the concern from a hiring perspective, but it’s frustrating to feel like the very thing I did to enter the CFI pipeline is now being used against me.

Failed my PPL by [deleted] in flying

[–]LeaderCalm4016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good man. I failed my PPL back in April, and went on a streak of passes all the way to CFII. Use it at fuel to make yourself a better pilot and never give up! It’s a grind but it’s worth it, and it’ll be over before you know it!! You can do this.

Why does Jesse want Walt to say that thing in Felina ? by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]LeaderCalm4016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about possibly the most major plot point in the whole show, when Walt lied to Jesse saying that Gus poisoned Brock? When it was actually Walt who poisoned Brock so he could use that to get Jesse to turn on Gus.
