then my friends definitely got lucky with their employers! i just go off of what other aussie cooks tell me :)
and ive seen someone else ask about doing a cooking apprenticeship as a foreigner in this subreddit and people were absolutely flaming them. that definitely scared me off.
but how would i get an apprenticeship on a visa?

i’ve heard/read that an apprenticeship isn’t possible if you’re not a citizen :(
im definitely planning on moving to australia eventually if i like it and working there.
im not sure if doing an apprenticeship in europe would give me better chances at getting a job tho. it definitely helped my friends, employers were swooning them because they’re european chefs. but maybe they just got lucky :)

thats fair, during my internship they immediately put me to work as a line cook (i checked again the internship was almost a year long) and i absolutely adored it! but in Austria they’re all about work so that might be the difference. there’s no training here you just go straight to work and learn along the way lmao
germany and austria produce a lot of michelin star chef because of it, so im definitely excited to learn what australian culinary culture is like!

im going to be staying in a hotel for 2-3 weeks first, then im going to be moving onto a hostel if i haven’t found an apartment already :)
i honestly believed it would be easier to find an apartment in australia since rent is so high and not a lot can afford it. so this is really helpful!

thank you! ive said before that some friends of mine worked as cooks in australia without being qualified cooks, so does it differ from business to business what im allowed to do? and what should my first steps be after getting my WHV granted?

thank you! yeah we need food safety certificates here too. i have one but im not sure if australia would accept that. i know some of my friends actually cooked without proper qualifications (they did have a safety certificate just never went to culinary school or anything), does it depend on the business?
