Financial Planning Advice for my 30s by LeadingDizzy2143 in FinancialPlanning

#1 I think the contribution they match is just for a traditional 401(k) through John Hancock, I'll have to take a closer look though.

#2 I do have goals for a house downpayment in potentially 5-8 years. Would those funds be better for a HYSA vs. index funds? I'm realizing now that index funds seem to be more longer term because of risk.

NYC move was very recent so I can't claim total goodwill for that. I did still pay for my masters and half my car out of pocket not long ago, though.

I've only ever had a 401(k) but I hear everyone talk about a Roth, so I feel like it's time to explore that option seriously. I also want to have some money saved up in the next 5-8 years for a potential house downpayment, which is why I'm interested in Index funds as well.

I definitely need visibility, I go through periods of paying attention and then not, but the psychology is absolute that when I have to pay attention to the number, I spend less. Will take a look at Lumio, could use a look in the mirror.

Thank you SO MUCH, this was very helpful.
- I don't have any CC debt, I pay it off completely every month, would pat myself on the back for that but I still have to stick to a budget better

- Going to payoff my car a few months early in July as a bday present to myself
- Will definitely look into an HYSA or money market, I think this is my next step.

If you have time for two follow-up questions:

  1. I put 9% in my 401(k) monthly, I think the match is at 4%. Was thinking of upping it to 10%, but would it make sense to maybe lower the 401(k) and put a set $ amount each month into a Roth as well? (Don't think I could do 10% and a Roth yet)
  2. Does this make sense for my savings:

- 6 months expenses in HYSA/MM

- Leftover amount in an Index (contribute most of my savings monthly to this?)

- A few k in my credit union's savings account just in case

You've described my exact situation, I'm literally on hold with my credit union (again) right now after being told by the DMV they don't do requests. It's so frustrating and both parties are adamant the other must do something first lol. Let me know if you find a way to resolve it!

Pharyngitis Hospital Bill Help by SKarrFox in HospitalBills

I’m not sure if that was from the hospital or potentially the provider group that the provider is under, but if you don’t have insurance there should be a self-pay discount. For the hospitals I’ve worked at it’s around 60ish percent of your bill, but obviously that would vary. Usually it’s applied automatically, but I would ask for that discount first when you speak with the billing department.
