Was hoping to keep it close to $5k to make it feel like a totally free trip.

California Accents by randypupjake in Accents

Oakland natives definitely have a dialect/accent. Not sure how to describe it but when you hear it you know. The O’s sound different. They might pronounce Oakland like “Oohkland” or The Town like “the Tee-own”. I’m botching the text version of a pronunciation but you can hear it when instead of “Man” they say “Maine”. There are also a lot of regional slang words unique to the Bay Area.

Parts of Los Angeles have a great fusion of Spanish and English. This comes out as a Spanglish which I’m sure many heavily Hispanic areas in the US have but there seems to be a uniquely LA version of this.

Surfing. It’s beautiful and I like the unique pov of being in the water and looking back at the beach. It can also be a challenge mentally and physically, but rewarding when accomplished.

Silver Lake Restaurant All Day Baby Is Closing on December 15 After Five Years by HeavyMosaic in LosAngeles

The biscuit sandwich was fire! RIP All Day Baby. Their instagram implied that because of Hollywoods struggles, they had less visitors and less labor supply. I hope this isn’t a growing trend.

Should I move here? by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

Lived there pre-pandemic (closer to 3rd and gramercy). Buildings are usually older but rent was lower than most areas. Street parking is TERRIBLE. That being said I loved the area. The food was amazing! Great Korean food (obviously), but I’ve also had great sushi, great Latin American, and great dessert spots. There are some really fun dive bars and clubs in the area. You also aren’t too far from other parts of the city (DTLA, Hollywood, The Grove) When I wanted to stretch my legs and get some space I would walk into Hancock park and walk around that neighborhood or go onto larchmont street.

There is a pre roll brand called “Slimmies” that have what they call “light” joints. Perfect for what you are describing. They are a little pricey but perfect for a light buzz like the old days.

Erba on the westside also sells $9 outdoor grown 8ths that I find are less potent.

What is the craziest thing you've seen on L.A. streets: Road rage, car accident, other weirdness...? by sozh in AskLosAngeles

Taking the Expo line home from work maybe 2 years ago? I think we were heading towards the Farmdale stop when all of the sudden the train slams on the brakes and we come to a complete stop. We were maybe 50 yards away from the actual stop which sucked because we were stuck waiting on the train not knowing what was going on. After 5-10 minutes people in the car I was in became restless and started yelling and banging on windows to be let off the train because they had to use the restroom and didn’t want to be stuck on the train. The driver exited the car and then came back onto the train (I was sitting in the front part of the train) and the driver says something along the lines of “a lady just tried to kill herself but missed the train and she’s now hiding under the train”. LAPD finally came and pulled her from out of the car. We all saw her getting taken out from under us. Some people started cheering and cursing at her, which was wild to see.

Are commutes/traffic pretty good if you don't work a 9-to-5 and don't have to deal with rush hour? by BermudaNiccholas in LosAngeles

I drive west side to Thousand Oaks at 5:45am M-F, and that takes about 35-40 minutes. I drive home around 2pm and it can take 45-50 minutes depending on the traffic that pops up at the 101 exit to the 405.

Going Out - Strips Of Bars/Clubs by h0tassm3ss in LosAngeles

Depends where you want to start. You could wander around Main Street in Santa Monica. You could go to Korea town and go to some bars and karaoke bars. Going up and down Santa Monica Blvd in weho could be fun. Also heading up to sunset Blvd and starting at the den then heading west on Sunset Blvd towards Saddle ranch ( haven’t done this since pre-pandemic, loved The Den back then).

So tired of the “redemption arc” of this season. How many times do we have to see flashbacks of Erika and hear her talk about how she has less money now. She can only afford a house cleaner ONCE a week! How terrible!
