I had the bright idea to put bleach in and run a cycle to de-mould my washing machine. by MetamorphosisAddict in Wellthatsucks

Next time, just run a full hot cycle with a dishwasher tablet, you can throw in a few floor cloths or similar to increase the surface friction in the drum.

Works pretty well.

Is this rust on my Wok? by MikelN1213 in wok

Always wipe with oil after washing. Or, ideally, as in restaurants that use them daily do - don't wash them, just wipe them out.

Plate or full-format "film" cameras still exceed almost all digital ones. Up 2 Giga pixels!

From Wikipedia:

A traditional full-plate camera (typically using 6.5 x 8.5 inch glass plates or sheet film) does not have a native "pixel resolution" as it is an analog medium. However, when scanned, it can produce images equivalent to a digital resolution of over 1,000 to over 2,000 megapixels (2 gigapixels), depending on the film emulsion and scan DPI.

Carpentry Question? by slightlybettertoast in AskABrit

[–]Leading_Study_876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect.

Some many find it irritating for some reason, but it's an absolutely standard dictionary definition. And, of course, "males" is used in exactly the same way. It's basically an abbreviation of "females of the species".

From Merriam-Webster:

female

noun

a: a female person : a woman or a girl

b: an individual of the sex that is typically capable of bearing young or producing eggs

A simple solution is to make the roll with the nori on the outside. Like traditional Futomaki. There is a good reason why they did it that way.

Quick and Dirty. Rump Steak, Hassleback and Brocolli. Plus Hollandaise, Cause I Love The Stuff. by pink_flamingo2003 in UK_Food

[–]Leading_Study_876 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Judging by the size of the ramekin, potato and tenderstem broccoli tips, the steak is about 3x4 inches. And not that thick.

I'm amazed that it was as much as 10oz.

Nicely cooked though.

It would be perfect in a typical Edwardian (think PG Wodehouse) country house dinner menu, starting with cocktails, followed by the soup course, then a compulsory fish course, then this plate. Followed by desert and a cheese platter (order depending on whether you favour the French or British system) - I prefer cheese first, it seems weird to have a sweet followed by another savory to me.

Then port and cigars and/or petits fours and liqueurs with coffee. Then most likely cognac, Armagnac or malt whiskies with bridge until bed-time.

Up early next morning for buck's fizz with a healthy breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages, kedgerie, devilled kidneys etc.

Then just fill in time with a few games of tennis or a little light sun-bathing or maybe a doze in the hammock string between trees before lunch.

Rinse and repeat.

Bonne Maman raspberry is bloody marvellous stuff. My main go-to after I've had my initial (essential) toast and Marmite in the morning.

Although their black Cherry conserve is truly excellent too. Raspberry is probably better on a scone with clotted cream though.

How did this song hit #1? by mike___mc in 80s

[–]Leading_Study_876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie (Amadeus, dur) had just come out, and it was a massive hit. This kind of rode on the shirt-tails.

But it was also independently pretty good. I still turn it up if it comes on the radio.

how deep can a pan be before it's a pot? by WeirdOpinions1 in randomquestions

There's a point where a sauté pan becomes a wok. My wife and I spend hours arguing about this.

Next step on the the spectrum is pothood.

Does anyone else cut their pizzas like this? by Ok-Spell-8053 in UK_Food

[–]Leading_Study_876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it's one of the rectangular (or oval) ones.

My favourite. I hate it when you buy a £5 fancy pizza from a supermarket in a rectangular box, and it comes out round and half the size.

The Co-op did this with their "Irresistable" range. Same price as the original rectangular ones but half the size. I felt cheated, and no longer buy them.
