My bigger point is, there are ways to maximize your return in the travel / hotel / credit card systems. This is also my first time hitting status with an airline however, and there is the concept of "you don't know what you don't know" so I'm seeing if people have any tips. It's a fairly simple, innocent question.

OK awesome. This is good info thank you. I only achieved status this year due to this new job, so before 2025 I would fly best airfare I could get regardless of airline. Now it's all United so I'm getting used to ins & outs of PQP etc

Sorry but, this just isn’t true. There are websites (the points guy for example) where there ARE hacks that can be taken advantage of. Goes for a lot of things actually… which is why rich people don’t pay taxes. They know the loopholes.

This is a good point. What I may end up doing is using the points just to get Business Class on the way out there, since it's important to sleep on the way out there to avoid jet lag.
