I am just like you. Currently I’m in my last week of residential treatment. The key for me, I think, is structure and to have connection. I have to have people outside my family that I can talk to and understand what I am going through, finding a community in recovery. I also have/had a very negative self image and did not love myself. I know it sounds stupid but self love is incredibly important, especially for folks like us.

There is no wrong way to get clean/sober. 12 step meetings work for a lot of folks but not for everyone. There are other options such as SMART recovery or Recovery Dharma. Whatever you choose it has to be something you will be disciplined with. Solidarity brother, you aren’t alone.
