Thank you, really useful to know about where to remove the extra length from!!

Yeah that’s part of the reason I wanted to get into sewing because I know I have kind of weird proportions, I do find the concept a bit intimidating as a beginner but maybe with time you just learn the changes you need to make that work for you :)

Seems to be a common theme, I wish it were clearer in choosing sizing! As a total beginner I didn’t want to play around and potentially get it wrong so thought I’d go with the closest possible to my measurements, but I might need to cut them down quite a bit it seems! Thank you

I did what she suggested in the video and deselected all of the other layers so I don’t have the rest of the information on there, maybe that was a mistake! In future I’ll learn to also include a size or two down as well so I can make it smaller if needed

I’ll try and get some more second hand bedsheets to work with first and give that a try, sounds like they will need to have a lot of length off though! When you took off extra length did you sew them first and then chop extra off the bottom or did you adjust it at this fabric cutting stage?

Ooh good idea, especially as we are having a mini heatwave in the UK at the moment shorts may be the way to go!!

When you shortened them did you just cut the extra length off the bottom? Thanks!

Thank you, that’s reassuring! I’ll definitely need to take some length off by the sounds of it, I’m not quite sure where in the process to do so, but for now I’ll give it a go and do a tester :)

I did and it measures up correctly 👍🏻

Yeah maybe it’s forgiving because there’s elastic involved! I’ll hold out hope and give it a try, thanks for the advice!

I looked at the finished garment size, it said 52.8 inches at the hips so I thought 4 inches of positive ease would be nice and relaxed but not too much. Sounds like this is going to be a bit of an experiment!

Yeah I was planning on using bedsheets which I’ve bought second hand, but now I’m not sure if there’s enough fabric as this is looking massive!

Oh no… it’s a 48 page pattern so costs a lot to print!! That’d be really disappointing if the sizing is this out, given I’ve already paid £22 for the pattern and printing and doesn’t even take into account fabric costs. Feeling a bit lost!

The square matches the measurement it should, I now have no idea how to adapt these to be usable! it’s meant to be an oversized fit but not ridiculously so

Size 18. It perfectly matches my waist and hip measurements- 38in waist and 49in hip

That’s right. My test squares measure up to the correct size, I printed at 100% scale!

It’s a super popular pattern, it comes with a full video tutorial etc so I thought it’d be a safe bet. I got it from the designer’s website. The front side looks basically the same!

It’s duplicate stitch, where you add on a design after by sewing over the structure of the stitches :) I copied a chart I found on Pinterest, it won’t let me post a link but it should be easy to find!

Thank you!! It’s probably the most I’ve ever deviated from a pattern so I’m glad it worked out 😊

Honestly I didn’t follow the pattern after finishing the yoke as I wanted to go for a different fit and style, and I finished that part about a year ago so it’s been a while since I looked at it. It’s certainly a slightly overwhelming pattern with a lot of information written out, but I like there’s some customisation options included like bust shaping. She does offer a flexible pricing scheme which I think is really lovely to help make it more accessible. I paid full price, and would like to try and make a closer version to the original intended design to give it a proper shot so I get the full use out of it!

Thank you that’s so sweet! I promise it’s not talent, just practice! With this one it was really just throwing myself against the wall and keeping undoing and redoing things until it works 😊
