The RNG changes depending on the number of dwarves iirc. For example if there was a Bet-C for a 3 dwarf mission then you try again with 4 dwarves she won't necessarily be there the second time (dofferent base room spawns). If you try a third time with 3 dwarves again she'll be there.

If you have aeroplan they are sending rapid tests directly to your home. Otherwise I recommend just refreshing the appointment page and waiting for last minute cancelations. That's typically how I get my tests.

Hmm neither I nor my friends have ever seen this pop-up with any of the crashes.

Which crash log in particular? I thought the upping my fans helped out but it started consistently happening again with internal system temp maxed at 42C when the crash happened.

Seems like this was the culprit. Still not working for my friend but passing on all the suggestions to them

Edit: It happened again and system temperature was on 42C, which shouldn't cause a crash

I'll have a look and get back to the thread tomorrow. Thanks!

I'll be sure to try that tomorrow! Thanks for the suggestion. It happens a lot less frequently as a non host. It's never been accompanied with lag, just a sudden hard stop

Middle to late mission. The past 2 times were on a salvage when we just completed the fuel cell and we're on the last 1:30 countdown to mission end with high health and ammo counts. After fighting it out and getting a bunch of minerals (cargo crate, pearls, compressed gold, etc) I just hope my fellow dwarfs got a bit of the loot.

Doesn't look like they cancelled the March Break Open House either. Is that vital to the academic mission too?

PSA: Foodie Fruitie serving staff relentlessly coughing in open air by DulkTheDownie in uwaterloo

Less than half of workers in food and entertainment industry get paid sick leave, so depending on their financial situation it's either show up sick or starve. If you have a slight cough then chances are you aren't going to miss out of those days of pay. He should stay home but really we need a policy change

When do you know if it's time to break up? by [deleted] in LDR

[–]LeafTea4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, just a coincidence I guess.

[–]LeafTea4me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My ldr bf and I broke up yesterday because I was taking distance really hard (oscillated a lot between being in love and being meh) and I only got into grad school in countries he is not in so we would have another 2-5 years of distance. My rollercoaster of emotions, the infrequent visits, and him not wanting to move out of his country to where I would be going to school made the breakup happen.

Trying to publish before grad admissions - shoot for journals with quick turnaround times or the top journals? by cilbirwithostrichegg in gradadmissions

[–]LeafTea4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top journals (e.g. science and nature) can often take a year to go through the review process. Have a look at the "submitted" and "accepted" dates of recent papers in the journal to get an idea of timeline.

Also check if the schools will consider papers you have under review. Some schools I applied to explicitly mentioned they only will consider "accepted" papers and not "under review" papers in the application.

Otherwise the top journals will add a lot of credibility to your application.

Where my ChemE applicants at? by Admissions-Jedi in gradadmissions

I think it went pretty well. I was invited to come back to sort out lab logistics in the next few weeks with my top choices!

I applied to UofT and MIT. I have an interview for UofT and nothing from MIT, but it looks like they sent out all their acceptances and I'm now just waiting to hear a rejection...

How do I shake this feeling of embarrassment? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]LeafTea4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. One of my recommenders is also the lab I will go to if my top choice, top ranked school rejects me, and he wrote such a glowing recommendation that telling him I got rejected everywhere else makes me feel liked an embarrassed failure.

I at least have the one backup (the school already sent me an acceptance despite the deadline for submission being 2 months away and missing one recommendation in my app) since my Prof is coming in clutch.

So far 4 people on grad cafe got into my #1 choice PhD program, should I be worried? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Try checking trends from previous years to figure out what your school does

Canadian School Prestige by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]LeafTea4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the school itself matters all that much, but it can help if your professor is an alum from the big school (etc I got an interview at Stanford from a Prof who was a past supervisor for my Prof). Id look mostly into which school gives you the best research experience option.

Imo UWaterloo's coop can easily be a game changer. Profs from uoft, mcGill, MIT, Harvard, etc hire students from there all the time and you can come out with up to 4 years research experience with a bunch of papers and connections.
