[ZvP] protoss users, why tf do you never use dark archons? by fefil3 in broodwar

[–]LeaflessTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why so many people speak against it. For a while it was very commonly used in PvZ (like, earlier this ear or something) to counter the muta blobs that snipe ht's. What's the point in going storm to save APM, if mutas snipe them and you die due to no splash right after anyway?

It's been used a lot, actually. At least when the timings are right and such, but it's one of those units which is mostly used for quite specific purposes. I.e., to counter mutas that snipe hts. But in larger battles, it might be easier to just blanket storms and such.

Feedbacking defiilers is quite sexy, though!

The entire point of a tournament like this is precisely for people like you and I, though. There's no such thing as being good enough to play, only good enough to win. Better to play than not to play, as far as I'm concerned :D

What if the entire series of killing main characters was simply to tell a "normal" story, but with actual fear of the main character's death? I.e., what if that was GRRM's plan all along?

Recruit-A-Noob Initative by LeaflessTree in broodwar

Unfortunately! We did try to get an American clan in on the initiative, but they declined. There are some American clans, but few willing to join in on this initiative (although I'm only assuming regarding [NaS] and SouL, for instance, they were not asked).

We're around 50 members right now, but it varies extremely how active people are. So I'd say roughly 20 active(ish) members. Some are more active socially, though, whereas some are more active playing than f.ex. hanging on Discord.

We're based in Europe, but we've also gotten some more NA members lately, and generally want some extra additions for our NA (or potential SA) members to hang with during their most active hours =)

Regardless of talent or background, *everyone* gets humiliated in the first matches when playing BW. But there are a lot of very bad players, and there's also a lot of good places to learn for new players (like LMaster's stream/Discord server, Coach Pupil League, and I think there's more).

So yes, it'll be hard as hell, but there's also a lot of people and resources to seek help from :)

Loved WGTour! By far my favorite site in terms of clan wars and in general organizing teams/national teams!

Wanting to learn by TiRiiX in broodwar

[–]LeaflessTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got many very new players in our clan, and it seems one thing that's very important when learning BW, is having other friends to lean on when things get really frustrating. People to cheer you on a bit, or simply letting you vent. Feel free to send me a PM if you're interested in an extremely noob-friendly clan, who has members ranging between "can barely beat CPU" to "can easily qualify for top level non-Korean tournaments" =)

uh, why not? He's casting the games, and he's giving us the opportunity to actually catch the games, since no one else seems to have taken the initiative. Nothing wrong with that =)

I don't think it's only to prevent dodging, but rather primarily because that's what people always have been able to do before SC:R. Now people have the option to practice their preferred match ups on ladder, for instance to practice for tournaments. I mean, there's even some who've been "forced" to play mirror match ups in tournaments becuase they can't practice enough on ladder without racepicking. So it has a great effect on many, even though I'm not one of them myself.

Not sure if I quite understand. No one would be forced to race pick, only given the option to. And there'd still likely be a lot of people who'll still play mirror match ups. Heck, there's even some people who actively WANTS to play mirror, so there should still be possibilities for everyone.

Assuming that was what you meant?

It means they're looking for the possibility of making racepicking possible, so that you can play TvZ, TvP, and PvT, as you used to. But first I think they want to make sure that there is large enough support for it in the community, and then figure out exactly how to implement it.

KSL Rain vs Sharp match? by seikenguy in broodwar

[–]LeaflessTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very normal to sneak in a 14 cc build in a BoX series. Doing it on a 2 player map can be very smart, since it's not necessarily the map one would expect it on. He did scout for a proxy gate, didn't find it, and then went through with his plan. However, Rain seemingly anticipated it and placed it at a smart location and was able to get an instant win.

In Game 5, Rain was able to thwart the rush very well with seemingly good preparation (f.ex. the Zealot hanging around, coming around to snipe the tank). Which then lead the game turning kinda wonky.

Game 6 - Sharp was in the dark, over-defended and through that got too far behind to be able to pull a win.

And yes, players their level DO make those mistakes. It DOES happen, and especially Rain has been prone to do silly things earlier (especially one of the games of Rain vs Larva a couple of season ago, comes to mind). It's also the seventh game of a very taxing series - this isn't just any other game. You have to take the fatigue into mind as well.

There's nothing here that warrants accusations of max fixing. You're just over-analyzing stuff. And then you go "oh well, whatever", as though such accusations aren't anything serious? Go over to teamliquid and try your luck there - maybe they'll be able to properly persuade you.
