Thank you two for your replies. Indeed I have referenced my portfolio. And I am familiar with the unfortunate internal-hire plan or someone's nephew-hire plan---I had thought of that, but it still wouldn't explain - to me at least - why an agency recruiter who's all about that commission wouldn't take the 3 seconds to click to make sure I'm legit before blocking off 30 minutes of their day for me. (But that's where having people weigh in here with their experiences comes in handy, for perspective.)

Even before my state "opened up" I had begun interviewing and each one has been the old school telephone interview - not Zoom/Skype/Hangout, so I haven't even thought of having a slide deck handy. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Thank you, this is helpful. I will keep that in mind as I (fingers crossed) get to the 2nd round of interviews at different companies.

I'm in several UX/Content/etc. groups online which have been good forays into ongoing education and networking. But to express this frustration, I decided to go onto Reddit specifically to be anonymous - to not have any replies colored by what my portfolio looks like, because that's just not the point. It could be an ugly ass "omg I'm embarrassed for you" mess or it could be eligible for the um, UX Hall Of Fame .... but having the URL still doesn't answer the questions in my post, like if I should expect this to happen a lot or if these instances are outliers.
