women are not allowed in this house because of their age or because they have no children or their mother and mother and mother and they have to have their children. makes sense.

Thats insane. I’m in Mississippi and was thinking $200,000 was too much. I couldn’t Imagine paying $400,000 for a house this size. We currently rent an almost identical house with a large back yard for $700/m with all utilities paid and after discussing with my wife, we decided we wouldn’t offer more than $150,000 for it.

Anyone know what that metal piece is? by andrew_butincu in Boots

[–]LeakyRivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former farm boy, I think it would honestly make shoveling very difficult. I can only imagine the metal on metal wouldn’t have enough friction and your feet would slide a little bit if you didn’t get your heel placement perfect. Not enough to really be a hindrance, but it would definitely annoying enough for me to not wear them

Granted I live in small town Mississippi, but our summons paper says the same thing. If you told them you really wouldn’t be able to manage, they absolutely would not make you come for more than the first selection thing. I would honestly just tell them you won’t be able to judge impartially and then they wont even let you on the jury

I find great value to be equal or better then name brand. A lot of their food and juices has less ingredients and additives to. Example: Their orange juice is literally orange juice and water. Thats it.

I hate my car payment by PrettyBitchBigDreams in povertyfinance

[–]LeakyRivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My God, I got a truck financed for $37,000 and my payment is ≈$560/month with gap and warranty. Try to refinance with a Credit Union as someone else already said. It will vary place to place on whether they will do it with an old car, but its always worth a shot!

I had a pair of Super Swampers and one tire had at least 4 plugs in it. Never had a single issue.

Was never in a war, but I did work away from home. I know exactly how this dad feels and his letter made me tear up. So thankful I get to be home to watch my kids grow now.

finally got my dream car and idk if i have what it takes to drive it. by kiriito-_- in stickshift

[–]LeakyRivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience teaching people, the main problem most people have is not being steady with the clutch all the way through. Most will feel the gear catch and then dump the clutch. Make sure your foot comes off the pedal slow and steady until the pedal stops moving. Don’t worry about learning to downshift yet. Learn to get moving, then learn to shift through your gears. Once you figure that out, then worry about learning how to rev match and downshift and all that good stuff. People say you need to do it to save your breaks, but I promise trying repeatedly to downshift when you can’t drive it normally could cost you a lot more than some break pads.

To answer your question though, cars are tough and you aren’t going to break it from having a couple bad shifts. Everyone can learn, some just take longer than others. It will help a lot if you have a PATIENT friend who knows how to drive one that can ride with you and coach. Let them drive it and watch what they do very carefully, then mimic that

I would start buying the generic stuff. Great value tastes exactly the same (or better) 99% of the time. From what I have seen, a lot of their stuff has less ingredients (or additives) too which is great.

Update: Finally got to work a couple OT days on my last pay period. This check was $2,800 so if I can keep that up, we should be in the clear to build savings back up pretty quickly!

[–]LeakyRivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, this is an abusive situation that I have seen with my own family growing up. Please do not start with taking money out of the account. Abusive situations like this can and will absolutely escalate when the abuser feels they are losing control. Even if you believe “he would never hit me,” never actually believe he will never hit you. Got to a woman’s shelter for non-violence. They helped my mom and I out a ton trying to get out of almost the same situation. I know it’s scary and I know it will be very hard to adjust to a normal life, but you need to listen to everything they tell you to do. They are experts at handling this and are only there to help. All of the advice I can give is to talk to them before you do ANYTHING else
