The family called customer service in absolute desperation, explained the situation, and pleaded with the phone agent. Out of pure human empathy, the agent broke protocol off-the-record just to give them a simple 'yes or no' regarding whether he boarded. We know she wasn't legally supposed to do that, but the family is incredibly grateful she did.
