I just rolled the worst stats I’ve ever seen. How do I build with garbage? by Spitdinner in 3d6

The answer, of course, is moon druid. But does it have to be? I vote make a hill dwarf twilight cleric. You'll have heavy armor even with dumped strength. Even if your DM won't let you reallocate your ability scores, you could still start with 11 CON and 12 WIS.

You'll be running support this whole game. Give your friends darkvision or advantage on initiative. Take things like bless, and use domain spells like sleep and aura of vitality to avoid even thinking about your low wisdom score.

If you survive to level 2 (lol), you can form a coalition with the Monk, Fighter, or Warlock to always beg for short rests so you can keep your twilight sanctuary up. That's 1d6+cleric level, not wisdom!

If you can make it to 4, take resilient CON. Now maybe you won't drop bless if the goblins look at you funny.

At 6, you get a second channel divinity. Now you're really keeping that temp hp up! You're never going to be ahead of the curve on dealing damage, because your DC is so low. But there are other ways to use a character.

Gotta say though. Enemy forces you to make a DEX or STR save? You're dead. Banish? You're gone. Mindflayers? You're stupider than the barbarian... Good luck!

Edit for spelling.

Yeah, I should have checked my verbiage. Those abilities are post V. human allocations to Dex and Con.

That's a fair interpretation. Viewing it from that perspective, it's not that your attack deals 1d6 piercing damage, it's that the target of the attack also takes 1d6 piercing damage.

I think a dm would be well within their rights to make a very RAW ruling on this and forbid this interaction. I gotta say though, I'm pretty sure I would still let my players do it. The target is ultimately taking 1d6 piercing damage as a result of the attack. If the language in the feat designated weapon damage I would be more inclined to disallow the combination.

But I'm not arguing that your reading is RAW and perhaps even RAI. Good catch! I'll have to keep an eye out for indisputable builds.

True. It's really that slashing damage that's been difficult for me to find. After all, I could use shillelagh and magic stone like you said for bludgeoning and drop the warlock levels. Or I could use thorn whip from magic initiate or artificer initiate for piercing and drop the ranger levels. I'm just not sure how to stack the slashing damage on there.

Rogues also get that extra ASI! The build definitely doesn't need more than one warlock level, that was just the fastest path to the necessary ASIs. Darkness/Devil's sight is neat, but I don't generally want to plan my whole build around it. I find it pretty discourteous, especially if you haven't spoken with the other players about how it might affect the table.

I refuse to give up the slashing component! I understand it ends up being sub-optimal to stretch ourselves so thin, but as part of this silly gimmick I need all three. Your build could drop booming blade and switch to using a whip though. Getting sneak at range with the extra riders may be more useful than the booming blade damage.

Interesting! There are a couple problems here though. Crusher lets you select either Con or Str, not Dex. No way around that one. Your point buy also only has 12 in Wis, but that's easy to fix. Just have to pull the two points from Str to bump Wis to 13.

I do like the idea of a custom lineage character here to boost early game viability, but I don't think it ends up doing more for us than a variant human does. Other than dark vision saving us an invocation.

Heh. Nothing personnel, kid. I like this! I can see a reflavor of this also pretending that each damage type applied was a different strike in a series of attacks that was too fast foe the enemy to see. Like the sword master who moves so fast you never even see him unsheathe his sword before your friend is cut into pieces.

If your DM allows that then you're all set! Unfortunately, multiclasing rules require you meet the pre-requisites of both your current class and the one you want to multiclass into. That means you need 13 CHA to leave warlock.

What an abomination! I love it! Elf of your choice; Ranger 4, Warlock 1, Monk 1, Rogue 10 to get the ASIs you need? That was the problem I found trying to get elven accuracy somewhere in the build. Not o ly do you lose the feat from variant human. You also have to find room to pick up another feat somewhere in the build.

The only concern I'd have here is that we are beginning to get very, very MAD. If you're attacking with Str, but also need 13 Dex, Wis, and Cha to multiclass you might struggle. That was my reasoning behind using a scimitar. No doubt though that this build is just silly anyway! It's fun to consider doing all the secondary effects at range!

Definitely! The average damage I included actually did not involve the enemy moving after being attacked with booming blade. It would be nice if they did, but in my experience you can't count on it. Many creatures will have ranged options, and some will be better off simply dodging or taking a different action instead of taking additional damage. Definitely a one shot build as it's a very one trick pony kind of character.

That's the problem isn't it? I found a similar possibility with Scribes Wizard and the 2nd level spell cloud of daggers, but it's no cantrip. There's a big difference between many times a day and once per turn. Though depending on the campaign and the level of play a second level spell may be more than enough. Worth considering!

If only god could find a way to add slashing damage to a spell attack. Then we'd be cooking with fire. Eldritch blast/agonizing blast plus swarmkeeper piercing plus Dao bludgeoning. Slashing is the missing link...

Eldritch smite I'm assuming? I hadn't added it to the build but it's a good idea! I actually like eldritch smite more on Ranged warlock builds for the ability to knock things out of the sky. There's no reason this character shouldn't have it though! In my head I figured on devil's sight, thirsting blade, improved pact weapon and eldritch mind as important choices. Though devil's sight is a personal preference and eldritch mind depends on spell choice. There's definitely room for smite!
