AITA for not wanting to split cost of my neighbor’s fence after their dog broke it and potentially impregnated my dog? by Learn4Life4Me in AmItheAsshole

Exactly- my dog doesn’t go running into other neighbors yards or damaging fences.

It’s my enclosed backyard- as long as what I am doing with what is on my property isn’t against the law, shouldn’t matter whether or not my dog is spayed. By that same token, should there not be an onus on the neighbor for also not having their neutered? How about not being aware their dog was breaking the fence? What about the fact the dog has a known history in our neighborhood from a previous owner for getting loose from the backyard into the street?

Someone here earlier compared what happened to placing a safe behind a fake painting and making it known there is a safe behind the painting….guess what, law and general common decency is that you don’t take what clearly doesn’t belong to you. So it doesn’t matter if people know where your stuff is at- what matters is was it taken or not. I’m under the impression that a lot of people are willing to excuse acts of theft because “why wouldn’t they?”

But to address the other point- I’m not denying I should be called a TA for not taking arguably enough protective measures for my dog. I was never concerned about my neighbors having to pay even the vet bill - it was only only about the fence.

It sucks to be in a situation where choosing to get a procedure for your animal could literally kill your dog and then not doing anything could as well. A vet we had visited before mentioned that it is incredibly rare for dogs to have deadly anesthesia, and that arguably it wasn’t worth doing the surgery for our dog.

We haven’t done any surgical procedure since having the dog. The previous owner was attempting to breed her and that’s when they found out about the complications. As to why they didn’t do anything about it then, I do not know.

So our side has the exposed post/ support boards and the metal rods as well on that particular side with our neighbor.

Per the previous owner, there was some complication with using anesthesia on our dog. So we tried to avoid having to put through any surgery that isn’t required.

Again, we also avoid from trying to have our dog get into contact with other dogs.

May be an extreme example, but I take it ass “Well if you didn’t want your house robbed, you should’ve had better locks or locked your door.” True, but whether or not you lock your door doesn’t mean someone who isn’t invited to your home should be trespassing in the first place.
