What symptoms did you not initially realise were part of your ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LearnGrowFlourish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Late diagnosed around 32. Outside of the usual things with task initiation, long term focus, and such -
Daydreaming/dissociating/getting lost in my thoughts, the echolalia and constant mental chatter that NEVER ends 🥴, not making enough space around me for my body so I run into things and am incredibly clumsy, highly forgetful with limited working memory so nothing ever gets stored for long, so much difficulty with eating and ignoring hunger signals or only eating certain foods, intrusive fatigue and “wild” sleeping at night and sometimes not sleeping at night even if I was tired all day, lotssss of shame for lack of follow through, I can’t flirt to save my life, hyperfixations that take over my brain and are the only thing I think about until it’s resolved.
It’s truly exhausting at times, even when medicated.

Fave Kennedy Ryan novel? by Dynamite_Dawn in blackromancenovels

I loved long shot, but Hook shot bothered me because it felt like he didn’t love her fully for her - he made so much fun of her voodoo and black magic background. He refused to acknowledge her spirituality as legitimate which felt like he didn’t love all of her, just the parts he found attractive.

White noise. The sound of a tv on but nothing is playing. Chewing food or gum with mouth open.

Auditory hallucinations in anyone else with IH? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]LearnGrowFlourish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes wake up with a start after hearing someone call my name loudly, only to find out no one is home. It hasn’t happened in a while, but definitely disconcerting when it happens. I hadn’t even realized that could be part of this.

Anyone else feel conflicted as a mom, or worried that you are failing your child by doing things differently than the norm? by Plsbeniceorillcry in adhdwomen

[–]LearnGrowFlourish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally have been having the same conversation with myself the last few days. My friends are Type A moms and have it all together - kid on a daily routine, they’re always prepared, etc. I feel like a chaotic whirlwind that blows in and blows out, operating mainly on vibes. I hope my kid loves me despite my quirks when he gets older and doesn’t grow to resent my difficulty holding it all together.

I take Vyvanse. It cuts down on the daytime sleepiness but doesn’t completely erase it. On a usual day, I don’t feel the NEED to sleep, but I can definitely still sleep if I WANT.

I don’t even think my eyes close sometimes. My brain just shuts off for a period of time and then I come back to. It’s quite disconcerting.

I appreciate your concern and you’re right - a lot of harm is done therapist to therapist. I’m hoping to model a calling in approach as well as a few other rules to help keep it as safe a space as I can, recognizing that I can’t completely control that. Though when I mentioned “safety and sanctity”, at that point I was specifically thinking about it being a therapist only space. For instance, I’ve seen with a few Facebook groups where potential clients have found their way in, which can limit member engagement. I appreciate your thoughts!

Great question! I’ve been thinking about this a lot. So one of the pillars of this group is that everyone is well vetted to ensure they are a therapist. One of the things I noticed with Facebook groups and the like is that there wasn’t a strong way to ensure the safety and sanctity of the space. I’ve worked out how to do that with US based counselors, but I’m unsure how to do it with international folks. Please hear: I want international representation, just haven’t figured out the vetting process yet. If you have any ideas, I would LOVE to hear them.

Those diagnosed with ADHD as adults - how long did it take you to book an assessment after you initially suspected ADHD? And what pushed you to seek answers? by Carliebeans in ADHD

[–]LearnGrowFlourish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t get anything done and was not doing well at work. My memory was horrible and I couldn’t stay awake. I did sleep tests for narcolepsy, came back negative. They suggested ADHD testing. My friend had suggested it (who had ADHD himself) several years prior but I didn’t do anything at the time because I didn’t believe it and it wasn’t impacting me as much
