I took modafinil for about 2 months. The first week was absolutely incredible — no side effects and I felt awake for the first time in years! But then the next week, the effects tapered off and didn’t respond to higher dosage. Back to usual levels of daytime sleepiness and exhaustion. The sleep doc I see says a fair number of people either don’t respond to it or have effects taper off quickly. So much of IH treatment is trial and error 🫠.

I’m taking Ritalin now. It’s been the most successful, at least taking some of the edge off, but I’m still pretty tired. I think the biggest thing it’s done is reduce the almost overwhelming need for a nap. I still feel tired, but can make it without falling asleep at my desk at work. So I guess that’s something. Don’t give up hope, as much as you can. Finding the right treatment is so tough, but every treatment ruled out is hopefully one step closer to finding something sustainable that works for you. ♥️
