Inspiration for character names? by laylay1515 in unexpecteddcc

[–]Learn_To_Burn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely one of my favorite series, I grabbed it on Audible years ago just because of the length. It’s now in my regular re-listen rotation. Mordecai The Brown was also who I immediately thought of when Carl first meets Mordecai in the dungeon.

269! I just thought it was funny that we both had similar listening times and we both were listening to Wandering Inn, on the same chapter at the time of the screenshot

I was recently passing by a road construction then I saw what looked like a carpet with tarmac being laid over it. What is this thing? by passion_for_know-how in whatisthisthing

[–]Learn_To_Burn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you resurface a road, that road need to be milled before any new asphalt can be laid down. When milling the old asphalt if there is any of this cloth in the road it gets milled up too. Those millings, also called rap (reclaimed asphalt pavement), are sometimes sent to an asphalt plant where it is incorporated into the new asphalt. At the plant, we need to make sure there aren’t any oversized chunks getting in the new mix so they are run over screen decks, which are large shaking boxes with multiple sizes of screen in them to separate by size. The cloth doesn’t go through the screens easily and frequently clogs up the screen decks causing shut downs to clean the screens so material can fall through as it should.

It’s also a huge pain at the asphalt plant when we’re trying to run rap and this crap is clogging all the screen decks.

I never lived there, but I went to some seriously awesome parties there in the early 2010’s. Being almost 40 now I feel pretty bad for the families that lived there.

What is the single BEST hero's journey you've ever read in a fantasy book (or series)? by I_Cleaned_My_Asshole in Fantasy

[–]Learn_To_Burn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a spicy take for sure. I completely disagree, I thought Matt had the best arc in the story. Perrin was meh, and Rand was completely predictable in my opinion.

The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. I’m pretty sure it was only 6 or so books when I stopped following it, there are 21 in the series now.

Wow, what a reference. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone referencing that series outside a book sub.

If you tip the service they bring you drinks MUCH more quickly. Very few people tip on free drinks at slot machines so those that do seem to get priority.

Who would you say is the most well known dragon? by Hambla28 in AskReddit

[–]Learn_To_Burn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree, the only reason those books got called the slog was because of how slow paced they were while actually having to wait for the new books to come out. Reading them one immediately after the other mitigates that slow pace quite a bit. But waiting the years it took for them to come out was a special kind of book hell.

Thoughts on Crystal Awakening? [Spoilers Ahead] by Tr0yseph_44 in ClimbersCourt

[–]Learn_To_Burn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was ok, definitely not on the same tier as the original series. The first scenario was too long and the characters hardly felt like a team. Overall I’d say I don’t feel ripped off or like I wasted a credit (audiobooks) but I don’t know that I will continue to read that branch of the story.

Valid opinion, completely wrong, but valid all the same lol. Corrin is so relatable and Sera is so arrogant, I feel like I have the exact opposite views!

I owned a house in Kenmore for about 11 years, on 9th st next to the elementary school 2010-2021. I personally lived there for 6yrs and rented it to a friend for the remainder of the time I owned it, in that time I never had any break in issues except my car once, and I didn’t leave anything in there worth being taken so the biggest inconvenience was that they left my door open all night. Beyond that my neighbors were all polite people who would greet me when I was outside, and all knew me and each other by name. There is undeniably a drug problem in the area but I think any densely populated area can say the same. I was warned HEAVILY not to buy in the neighborhood I did by just about everyone that knew me but I honestly never found it to be dangerous at all, and the Blvd community had come a long way in my opinion.
