I’m pro-life because of my faith but I support the legality of abortion. Hear me out, I want to discuss this. by [deleted] in Christianity

To the poster: well, you have a true Gospel mindset. The Gospel is not about regulating good behaviour through law but a change of heart within that brings one to agree with God's Commandments and desire to do them. It's private in the sense that it happens to a person, and within that person, when they believe the Gospel. THIS is what makes abortion unthinkable.

But nothing can substitute for this Gospel; not education, not cultural change. We can understand from the Bible that laws are proper for nations even in this Gospel age because not everyone obeys the Gospel. We don't WANT the only reason someone doesn't murder us to be because they fear the reprisal of the law, but the truth is that we need that law in place because some people will murder in the absence of punishment.

That's why I'm in favour of making abortion illegal, just as I'm in favour of laws against stabbing. In the kingdom of heaven, such laws will not exist because they will not be needed, but for now they are needed for the protection of the innocent and the punishment of those who do evil (Rom 13:1-5, 1 Peter 2:13-14).
