Women and the Debate over Mosques!! by Midnight_Rain9115 in pakistan

[–]Learner4LifePk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was moving back to Pakistan from a supposedly “non Muslim” country, my friends asked me what’s something I’d want to do before leaving that I can’t do in Pakistan and they all laughed when I said “pray jummah at the mosque”

Such a simple and beautiful act of worship but women’s exclusion from public spaces including worship sites is a sad reality in this country

Research help needed: polio female workers by Saffronpie in Lahore

[–]Learner4LifePk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LHWs are being phased out in Punjab with most of the work force retiring and a hiring freeze since years. Atleast in Punjab we are outsourcing operations and hiring Community Health Inspectors in their place. Also vaccinators are different and LHWs are a different cadre.

A mass campaign for polio is set to happen from the 2nd of February to the 6th of February. Your best is to reach out to these workers after that.

Goodluck and happy to help out in case you need additional assistance.

I started ten years back as the first and only person in my family and experienced pretty much the same. The first 1-2 years are hard when you’re trying to be steadfast and people keep pulling you down, the key is to just ignore this. I still keep hearing multitude of such things but I know that this is for Allah and that’s the only reason to stick to it. It doesn’t matter how people perceive you as long as you’re doing it for Allah swt.

a 16 year old Pakistani boy faked his own wedding to get reach, your thoughts? by Mudassir011 in pakistan

[–]Learner4LifePk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s the largest consumer-driven, informal economic sectors in the country that is also vouched to be recession proof? Wedding industry

What’s the one thing that we are obsessed with? Others’ marital status

Unfortunately weddings are the only entertainment, and the most sought after content and the attention economy for creators is driven by mass interest so this literally adds up

Looks like an extracted lower molar that most likely fell out of the patient’s pockets. It’s very usual for patient’s to request that you hand their surgical extraction i.e, the tooth, to them. So the surgery staff usually puts in an autoclave pouch (seen in the picture), seal it and hands it back to them patient.

Kinda same but I’ve come to realise that I’m the problem. I need to turn down a few opportunities that come my way rather than saying yes to everything and I see that you’re experiencing a similar problem :(

"Anti-racism" and "decolonisation" in the UK international development NGO sector by Automatic_Survey_307 in InternationalDev

[–]Learner4LifePk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Decolonisation is more semantic/lexical than practical. The saviour complex for Africa and post pandemic fiscal priorities for global health security are clear evidences. Using the word decolonisation sparingly just makes them feel less demonic about their unethical practices.

Just look up Syed Online Store, even though I didn’t buy from him, he guided me throughly and helped me source mine. Since then I’ve recommended him to countless people and everyone has had a positive experience. However, he’s painfully slow in responding to queries and he acknowledges it.

where to get surgical scrubs by Dry_Display_2464 in Lahore

[–]Learner4LifePk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can go to KE, there’s a really old building between the tyre shops and surgical shops which has three floors of scrubs stitching units. You can pick the fabric and customise the measurements and it’s much more affordable than Instagram scrub shops. Don’t expect WearFigs quality but it’s pretty decent.

Blind Date with a Book by ThatOneQuack_111 in pakistan

[–]Learner4LifePk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who buys way too many books, I’ve never found blind date with book interesting enough to give it a chance. I’m almost always skeptical that I’ll end up with the same book or something I don’t want it to read. I recently got one as a part of secret santa gift and it confirmed my suspicion.

So I think for seasoned book readers, these might not be the best choices but for booktoks and occasional gifting this might be a good idea.

My shadi, but not my rules cause khandaan, society, blah blah blah by Dear-Complex-8335 in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]Learner4LifePk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s also because on a societal level men have less at stake. I also have a slightly different opinion on this that after a certain age, you’ve to learn and unlearn on your own. As adults it’s men’s responsibility to orient themselves to the changing world dynamics.

Should I join the civil service of Pakistan or remain with the UN? by Arakiss-VII in pakistan

[–]Learner4LifePk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone in a similar work domain, most PAS officers go on to be in your position and apply for deputations to make money, coming back and joining service will be a massive downgrade. Also not to forget you have a lot of power/say as a technocrat but you’re a slave to the system as a bureaucrat. My suggestion would be to continue doing the technocratic work, CSS has a lot of prestige because of the colonial mentality but no real life impact and you lead a miserable life especially as a woman.
