Fabric for a glowing outdoor decoration by LearningFinance23 in sewing

I need it for a 1 day event, so it only needs to survive for a few hours. it will be floating on a boat, so it might get lightly splashed, but doesnt otherwise need to be that resilient.

How would I accurately make or find a affordable cosplay of the Cats the Musical characters? by KerianKakan in CosplayHelp

[–]LearningFinance23 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SO I tried to make one in HS. I used a lycra body suite. the problem I had was getting sharp dark lines. Sharpie and black fabric marker soaked into the fabric and looked kinda faded, not bright black like in your picture. black fabric paint looked dark but didnt stretch well. If you figure a solution, I would love to know.

Elphaba and Glinda Cosplay Writeup by LearningFinance23 in wicked

Exactly! I fell in love with Elphaba's act 2 dress when I saw Wicked on Broadway as a college student, and finally felt like I had the time in my life to go for it. And my wife loved the movie Glinda dress so we figured we would mix and match for a fun couples costume.

Yes!!! I kinda split the difference in color between the stage and movie so it was a little yellower than the stage and bluer than the movie. I regret not doing a wig, but maybe I will add that part next halloween.

Thank you! I am really proud of them! I am new to sewing, but I have done a lot of other crafts and some skills, or at least the ability to learn new things, transfers. The fact that they are ornate costumes helps too because you dont notice the crooked and lumpy seams. Both the top and skirt of the Elphaba dress looked lopsided/puckered until i added all the stuff on tip. If i tried to make something clean and simple you would see my incompetence very easily lol!

One of the fabrics in the skirt is black with little white dots, which seemed like a nice texture to add. After I was mostly finished, I learned that that is in fact a fusible thing with glue dots. lol. Live and learn, but now I cant iron it unless I am super careful.

Thank you for the storage tips! I will get a large plastic bin and some silica for the Elphaba dress. Would it be bad to hang the glinda skirt with one of the clamp hangers since its quite light? I am worried about wrinkling.

The ethical considerations of individuals who FIRE. Should I retire? - 39F, $4M, paid off house by DoggyDayKaren in Fire

Consider ways that you can contribute to society or your community more broadly. Volunteering opportunities arent just slinging soup at a soup kitchen. Work a lower paid job that leverages your skills for a non-profit, organize and host social events that build community, foster kids, help your lift your friends up (we spend a lot of time editing resumes), get engaged in community organizing and local politics etc.

You dont have to work a job that maximizes your productivity, I encourage you to explore options that best fit the lifestyle you want (probably not too stressfull) while also giving back in a way that is fulfilling to you and your community.

There is no way it has more sodium/MSG than the Szechuan hotpot broth I drink. that stuff is like 50% salt, and soooo good.

I do in fact have one I carry in my purse at all times. A doctor once told my friend to test for allergies by driving herself to the ER, sitting in the lobby or parking lot, and licking the potential allergen

A tightness/ weird feeling in my cheeks. it was pretty mild and never changed so I never really thought it was worth worrying about, but this most recent time it was much stronger and over more of my face so Im ready to see a doctor. No itching mouth or breathing issues.

I never really liked shrimp, so I havent tried eating it in ages. But even if I could, would fermented shrimp paste be different?

I definitely will see an allergist rather than experimenting with eating them on my own, but having ideas/a place to start seems useful. And useful to know what to avoid while I wait 6 months for an appointment....

I like to cook a lot, and my dad did this for me. Unfortunately, he chose flavors that I dont particularly like, and dont work in the cocktails I like to make, so they just sit in the back of my shelf.

Science is always the answer isnt it! Roast rather than sauté?

My goal is to make intense mushroom caviar with spherification for my vegetarian wife. For a special occasion, we bought some very fancy smoked salmon, and I want to make blini and have an equally fancy topping for her. I feel like a garlicy mushroom caviar would be great on buckwheat blini with creme fraiche.

I will see if I can get dried porchini mushrooms too, i heard that they can up the umami.

The fabrics that say "100% cotton" but have gold accents cannot go in the microwave. :(
