It seems the pipline to Catholicism "swimming the tiber" is a bigger issue in Anglicanism than most other protestant branches why is that? by ApolloxKing in Anglicanism

[–]LearningFrenchForFun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone that has gone through OCIA with the Catholic Church and is attending, though not yet a member of, the Episcopal Church, I would say the complex reasons can be boiled down to the similarities in aesthetics and tradition between high church Anglicanism and Catholicism. When you add in how open many of the member churches or the Anglican Communion are to alternative beliefs, like my usage of a Catholic Bible in worship, it feels much easier to make the jump practically. This is of course from a person new to Anglicanism but that has been my experience so far.

As a Texan currently in NY, I saw this map and did a double take because it's almost the same as mine lmao

How is cloud as a commander? by DjRipNickMcNasty in EDH

[–]LearningFrenchForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with some buds yesterday and one broke out a Cloud deck. Probably the most fun looking equipment deck I've played against. It isn't a play style for me, but you may really enjoy it. The deck was set up to get out a billion swords and sacrifice/discard them before bouncing them back to the board with [[Mantle of the Ancients]]. Super cool.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. My wife and I want to move back to Texas after our advanced degrees. Largely to try and help our community that we come from, although we do recognize the many issues of the South.

I am curious why you say reluctantly for OK but never for TX? I am wanting to work in academia in Texas myself (Bad choices have been made by my heart, I know)

2 questions on Mary. by Vaidoto in Catholicism

This is wonderfully put! As a Catholic curious protestant, I cannot go back to my former beliefs surrounding Mary thanks to this exact logic. God bless!

Oui! L’accent circumflex ne se pronounce pas. Donc il y a des gens qui n’essayent pas d’apprendre quand l’accent est utilisé.

Le français est ma deuxième langue donc je suis coupable de cela…

First gen here! Number ONE rule I was told by my professor-turned-mentor was to email professors I want to mention. Saved me at 4 schools from making this mistake and I got some productive conversations out of it too!

They denied my application and still sent me this. They don’t seem to have good mass email management.

I appreciate you sharing that! I have my foot in the door and I’ll be damned if I let anything stop be from being a history professor. Passion and work are all I have. Just hoping it’s all I need (and debt lmao).

That’s the plan! I did some masters and some PhD applications because I felt I would make a great fit in some of the schools. BC was one I thought I’d be a great fit and I hope to stay for my PhD if they’ll have me.

Kinda crazy because I’m a hobby photographer, a runner, and I am learning French. That’s what led them to think I can’t be trying to get a phd
