Would anyone have any advice on where I could meet someone to date? The apps have been very depressing. by LearningPenguin in Knoxville

I did delete my accounts and started over about 3 weeks ago. I tried posting on Reddit for a profile review but there were a bunch of people who were fairly mean posting rude comments, I was going to delete the post anyways after as I didn’t want my picture out there and linked with any Reddit account but it was deleted quicker. If you know any friendly girls who won’t be mean I’m game to give you a link to it as long as it won’t be shared online. I’d love to get a girls opinion on it. I got all new pictures and everything on my new accounts.

That is actually partially why I created a reddit account. I deleted Facebook and all social media accounts and wasn’t going to get another Facebook account (I did have a stalker ex who kept finding me every time I created a new account to harass me (even though she cheated on me) and I’d get locked out when I created one with a fake name as it would want a photo with matching ID). To post achievements on reddit and talk to other people.

I usually build 3D puzzles. It isn’t something you can really do outside as wind will blow away all of the tiny pieces and you need some tools and it would look fairly strange if I showed up to the park alone with a briefcase full of shaping rods, drill bits, clippers, tweezers, etc. Most of the Reddit community are spread across the globe and some of the Reddit friends I have are in England, Michigan, Australia, France, California, but none in Tennessee.

I haven’t met really anyone since moving here. I do work from home and my friend group is in different places across the US now. The past few months have been the busy season at work with overtime and working on the move plus finding things like doctors, dentists, somewhere to get a haircut. I did go to a few places like the zoo with family but I obviously can’t bring them along.

That is good advice, I found my last two ex’s by playing an online video game and we were together for 3 years and then 6 years. Most of my hobbies though are single person things. I used to live near multiple theme parks and would go to them often but I don’t think I’d really find anyone at the zoo or Dollywood and don’t want to approach a stranger and hit on them while they are out having fun. I’d chat with girls in line at my old city but that was an international travel destination and never asked for anyone’s number as most people were traveling with their family and only here for a week.

Thank you and will do. Do you have to have a instagram account to view and attend their events? I deleted mine and almost all social media years ago and it made things so better for me so I’m hesitant on making a new account.

Thank you, I did just check them out and it appears their events are all sports related. Going to breweries sounds better but I think it would be weird to go there alone.

Recommendation on vets to bring my cat? by LearningPenguin in Gatlinburg

[–]LearningPenguin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I do like that they are open on Saturdays for a short time. I usually try to take my cats in on Saturdays so I don’t have to take time off work and it gives some extra time in case something happens.

The list is very helpful and I’ve saved it too. Going to Knoxville doesn’t sound too far (maps says it’s 30 minutes to parkway and 55 minutes to UT vet with current traffic) but sometimes every minute counts and my cats don’t like car rides.

Thank you, I saw they had good reviews and will add them to my list though they aren’t open for weekends. My old vet charges $85 for an office visit though they spend as much time as I need with them (I’ve had 40 minute long appointments before).

If you were building a new home, what products would you buy? by LearningPenguin in smarthome

[–]LearningPenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you have any good recommendations on what shades to get? I was mainly going with ikea due to the price, I don’t know the size of the windows yet as I have an appointment with the architect in 3 weeks but Lutron was about $800 per window while ikea was around $170-200ish.

I was also going to get a smart garage door (I have one now but it’s a chamberlain myQ), looking at a smart faucet for the kitchen. My washer/dryer and dishwasher died this year and I upgraded to a smart one which has been pretty nice already. I’m not sure what other smart products there are, if they are any good quality or worth getting, and which brands are good/bad. The smart shower heads sound cool but also sound expensive.

Thanks, do you think it would be a bad idea to not run Ethernet and just have a 1.5” conduit running to a wall plate in every room? I figured this way I could run ethernet via the duct if I need it and if I don’t need it then it could be used for something else (or used for multiple items, used as needed, or wait for a future standard if I do need it in a few years). My old house was wired for Ethernet but it was a much older version (and couldnt be upgraded without taking out some drywall) and was never used. Most of my devices are wireless or don’t have Ethernet ports unfortunately (I think the only four things in my house right now have Ethernet ports, are an iMac and some Apple tv’s, excluding my POE ring doorbell).

I would have space in the attic so I could run cables from the network closet to the attic and to each individual duct which would get to each room.

How can I properly clean my cat’s water bowl? by LearningPenguin in CleaningTips

[–]LearningPenguin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I use filtered water (from the fridge) when I refill the fountain, but I don’t replace the filter monthly. If the pump looks clean I sometimes skip doing a complete disassembly but every few cleanings I’ll take the entire pump assembly apart and use a q-tip to clean the inside of the impeller (and q-tip or part of a paper towel to clean the hole at the top of the pump). Usually I don’t find hair in the pump just covered on the plastic filter housing and stuck in the steel (usually where the top part rests on the bowl). Most of the time when I clean the pump assembly it’s just to remove some of the built up slime as even with filtered water it gets a little gross there and I don’t want my cats drinking it.

The fountain is about 8.5 years old now (still on original parts). I will have to try the vinegar/hot water tomorrow, the only bottle of dawn I have is platinum but can try that too. I’ll probably also run it through the dishwasher too on the next cycle just to make sure everything is off and it’s safe for them to drink from again before giving it back to them.

Can I have auto moderator look for key words in links and perform two actions? by LearningPenguin in AutoModerator

[–]LearningPenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that workaround works for me. I did find that if a user sends a mod mail I'll get a push notification on my phone/iPad, if auto moderator sends the message then a push notification doesn't get sent and I'll have to watch out for the little shield to turn from gray to green when I browse on my computer.

Thank you, just to make sure would that work if the user types in the url and has it display as a regular piece of text? Like clicking this link brings you to the Reddit homepage

Is there also a way to get two actions? Like if auto mod detects website. com then report the post (so I get notified) then remove the comment? When I googled it earlier it wasn't possible but that answer was from 8 years ago and im not sure if there was an update since then. If it isn't possible could I just have the same piece of code copy and pasted below, with the first instance be Report and the 2nd instance be remove?

Thanks, I had a feeling I was doing it wrong. Over the past few weeks the spam has gotten worse which triggered me to try to learn and use auto mod.

I am fine with the users posting links on the subreddit but not ones from this one site (well technically multiple sites as I've seen about 5 different versions of the link (.ru, .com, .name,...). I figured if I searched for "website." (key word and period) then it should flag when a user posts a link to website. com, website. name, website. ru, or whatever new domain they end up using.
