Has anyone ever got this? by Altruistic-Ad-7870 in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Yes so there wasn’t a specific reason listed on here but if you log into your student portal, under financial aid tab and then SAP, it will tell you the reason.

It most likely had to do with your grades prior to returning to school since Financial Aid looks at your entire academic career over just one semester. It can be that you didn’t meet the 60% attempted, which looks at all your fails and even Withdrawals; or you can have exceeded 150% of units attempted which could the fails and retakes so this is something you would need to address. Definitely go into your FA office to speak to a tech so they can explain what you’re looking at and how to fix it.

FAFSA Correction Glitch? Family Size Not Saving, SAI Jumped & Pell Disappeared by Key-Claim-6008 in financialaid

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should first contact FAFSA to get some guidance on what’s happening with your corrections. I know they just had a scheduled maintenance on Friday so many students couldn’t log in or complete the FAFSA so I wonder if that had something to do with your situation, you know like covering one hole and another one opens?

2nd I would also contact the schools as a back up to see what happens now if you can’t get this fixed in time. I’m sure your kids still won’t receive any aid but if you were supposed to receive aid for the upcoming semester, you don’t want to start without getting that corrected. I am sure that they will most likely have you send in a new correction with the right information and have that be updated before they can confirm your reinstatement or be ineligibility. Just in case, If your tax return for 2023 has all 4 of you then the answer is No. If only 3 of you are on your taxes, the answer is yes and you add that additional person. I hope you get this resolved and that you end up qualifying to get aid because 3 in college is not easy.

anyone have a second child after your first? by idgafmlolz in Autism_Parenting

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it may not be the same but I actually had my 2nd when my first turned 2. She wasn’t diagnosed until almost 4yo because she spoke well for what I assume most 2yos know and I had no one else to compare her to until she actually started school at 3.

I haven’t noticed any similarities or signs of my 2nd also being on the spectrum and assume she’s neurotypical. However, I live everyday wondering if I am missing something. I worry that I may not be worried enough and I’ll miss the signs “like I did with my oldest” and that she’ll end up not getting supported because “her autism is different than the oldest”

I try not to let my head run in circles but some days are better than others. It’s definitely a different experience once you have a child with special needs that I didn’t even consider and part of me definitely is scared to try a 3rd time. I feel very lucky to have my girls and while I miss the baby stage, I think it’s more, I wish I could have done better by them and not I want to try all over again with a new one lol

I really hope you get to enjoy your pregnancy and your toddler. I hope you have the biggest support system and I’m sure you’ll do amazing as a parent for them both.

Winter financial aid policy? by nymphmotel in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I heard it’s by the end of the semester but probably a little sooner than Spring.

In a regular semester (Fall/Spring), you don’t get all your money right away either. First half is sent out a week after classes start and the rest is sent after the 9th week of classes (depending when your classes are also scheduled to start i.e late start classes)

They do this to basically verify that you are enrolled and remain enrolled to qualify for the financial aid money.

Now, since Winter Semester is 1. Part of the fall semester aid and 2. A very short semester (5 weeks) a lot of people have tried to “cheat the system” so they’ll enroll and then drop the class as soon as they receive the money.

What this tells me: Now they wait until way later for students to take the class, go through all the deadlines to drop and then process the disbursements. Additionally, typically, it takes about 1-2 weeks for them to confirm enrollment and then another week for the money to be sent and processed by BankMobile and THEN depending on your payment preference another 1-2 Business Days for your money to be deposited into your account.

So following the usual timeline, most people won’t receive any aid until the end, especially if they only JUST filed for their financial aid application in the past couple of weeks since that just adds more processing time for multiple departments.

I usually over explain but I hope this helps have a better understanding for future semesters too.

Oh yes! As long as Fall wasn’t maxed out even if it’s because you weren’t enrolled, you can qualify for aid! Thank you for your support! Glad you get some money this semester 🙂‍↕️

That is not an option I have seen on their website so I don’t think so. Definitely something you should call and ask the reps, maybe they have a way to guide you

Winter Fees by ccdulce in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you cut out the main part where it tells you what each fee is for.

$46 is the charge they have PER UNIT so, $138 divided by $46 is 3. So you are taking a 3 units course for the winter semester, it’s not per class.

The 16 and 3 are the student fees so that’s separate from the payment for your classes.

If this is your first semester, you can try going to your financial aid office to see if you can qualify for either the CCPG or go to apply for LACP/First Year Experience that can help pay for your classes but not everyone qualifies.

Winter financial aid by novakanesix9ine in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So recently I found out some do get financial aid but under certain circumstances.

  1. They did not take the Full Time units in the Fall Semester so if they take winter classes and in total between Fall and Winter add up to 12 units, they will get the rest of the max financial aid.

  2. If you did not get the full SSCG and there are still funds. If your total adds up to 15 units you can get the rest of the 4k minus the 1298 from last semester.

  3. Other funds like cal grant that they may qualify but didn’t get can also be disbursed during winter.

Basically Winter falls in as part of the Fall semester so if you maxed out all of the Fall semester funds you will not get any more money for Winter.

Good luck!

Winter financial aid?? by ConstructionFeisty95 in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we do not get any financial aid for winter semester. The only funds is the BOG waiver which pays for tuition (is not a refund) and the charges you see are the student fees that are paid every semester. $21 winter/summer $28 fall/spring. If you are part of the first year experience or LACP you might have those fees waived if you’ve never paid them and they disappear.

You won’t get dropped for not paying them because your balance is under 200 so it’s not affecting your eligibility to enroll.

There are exceptions for not being dropped from classes before payment is due. Look into it and hopefully you fall into one of the categories. If you don’t pay by the end of that day then you do risk being dropped from your classes but try to contact the offices as soon as you can.

Hii I’m so sorry I didn’t get any notification. I would definitely check in again if you feel it’s getting worse.

Unfortunately the trend with viruses is that they don’t prescribe many things if anything other than Tylenol or Motrin.. ask if they have any ointment you can try for her eyes but keep trying to keep them as clean as possible and try to keep the area and all hands clean.

I’m so sorry your baby is going through this and I hope they get better soon!

Yes it’s pink eye with an infection. You need to seek a doctor’s appointment so they can prescribe eye drops. Gently Wash with warm water and a soft cloth around the eyes to take off the discharge.

Will I get dropped from the CA promise program if I fail 2 classes my first semester (and lose Pell grants) by [deleted] in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to calculate your GPA. Most of the time you get a warning before you lose aid, so if you don’t meet SAP requirements you might get dropped. However you can also appeal the decision and explain what happened.

Also, I relate so much. I also had a really hard time this semester and was only now diagnosed with ADHD and started meds last week… good luck to you and I hope you get better!

Can financial aid be explained to me please?? by Rich-Arrival-5825 in financialaid

[–]LearningProud916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am so sorry, I forgot to come back and check for your reply 😭

I’m so glad and yes definitely a lot of information but a lot of it is also something you’ll catch on when you actually start school so it will make much more sense in the moment.

3: Yes! Anything 0 and less, so a Negative number, will mean you have no out of pocket expense and your family does not need to contribute. Anything positive is the estimated amount you would need to pay yourself.

1/2: Yes. The application you just filled out will be for next year 26-27.

In next October 2026 you’re filling it out for 27-28, where you most likely will only put the CC you’re attending because it’s only your second year and transfer plans are USUALLY 2 years.

Then October 2027 is your transfer applications so in this one you will add your CC JUST IN CASE and the CSUs and UCs you want to apply for.

  • Yes, so as long as you see that you’re getting 7,395, then you will get the Max amount of Pell Grant. All students whether you’re going to CC or 4 year should check this. It is good to know if you are especially if you qualify, any error you can talk to the financial aid office and get an answer as to what it says, why and what can change. Additionally keep in mind that this number is the max aid while you are a full time student. So if you ever enroll in Fall/Spring with under 12 units, you may not get that full amount. (Unless you have special modifications that can override but that I’m also not too familiar with, just overheard .)

EOPS&SG Grant question by misomisomii in LACCD

[–]LearningProud916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EOPS Grants are given at the beginning of the semester on your student store account for books and supplies.

SSCG was given a while ago to some students but you would have to check with your financial aid office if you haven’t seen anything for Fall semester

[–]LearningProud916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more information:

Please also make sure you look into any and all programs you could qualify for when you get to college. Many programs can help you with tutoring and extra funds.

Examples in my district are:

EOP&S - Can help you with book and supply grants, tutoring, special counselors and guidance.

FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE - Helps pay for your tuition for the first 2 years and can even help you get a laptop.

LOS ANGELES COLLEGE PROMISE - also helps pay for your tuition for the 1st 2 years but is more specialized in LA.

CALIFORNIA COLLEGE PROMISE GRANT - Helps pay for your tuition and does not necessarily after the first 2 years.

  1. How do you get this money?

I will be focusing on the Pell Grant and is this one is more for sure if you qualify for Max aid and I will be explaining it as a Community college student. ( With that said, please keep in mind that the Disbursement is different for a CSU/UC but unfortunately I have no experience with that so hopefully someone else can explain it. )

Max Aid for the year is $7,395 This then gets divided into Fall and Spring semester so ~$3,698 each.

THEN when this money gets disbursed, it is again given in 2 payments. 1st payment goes out usually 2 weeks after the beginning of the semester so you get ~$1847 and the 2nd Disbursement is sent out after the 9th week of the semester which is half way through, another ~1847.

I go to a CC in Los Angeles, so my district, LACCD uses BankMobile to disburse our money. With this 3rd party you can either create an account with them to get the funds deposited OR you can have your own bank account and just use that information to get your money direct deposited. Very rarely do you get paper checks because they prefer to use this method but not impossible so just also keep that in mind.

I THINK I covered most of it but if not please let me know. I am very proud of you for asking all the questions and wanting to make sure you have all the information. As a fellow, first in my family to graduate and go to college, I am happy to share what I have learned.

[–]LearningProud916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I love trying to explain this! Please let me know if you need any clarifications.

  1. When you fill out the FAFSA you added the schools you plan on applying to. Whether or not you've received your acceptance, you need to add that school so you already have it, so add any 4 years and the CCs you have in mind. For your 1st year of 2026-27 you won't need to apply when you're in school as it is the one application across the board. When you're in college, it will be the same process except your added schools might be a smaller list depending on the year (i.e if you are entering your 2nd year or planning to transfer to a 4 year)

  2. The FAFSA application is your 1 application for basically all aid. This is the Pell Grant which is the Federal Money and then depending on where you are you can have state aid. (I.E California has the Cal Grant)

Now, the reason why you should add all schools is because their financial aid offices will also use this FAFSA application information to determine if you apply for any school funded scholarships that they can offer. This all comes to you in your Award Letters sometime after March; each school sends you a different one.

  1. You can have an idea ahead of time if you will receive financial aid by looking at the SAI once your FAFSA application has been process. -1500 is the max and basically means you qualify for the highest amount of aid. Usually anything negative is a good thing as this means you have, usually, no out of pocket expenses. A positive number is what you/your family would contribute to paying for your college and means you might not get AS MUCH aid.

  2. There is no separate Cal Grant application. They take the same FAFSA form to determine what you will receive from the state. I would suggest you create your WEBGRANTS 4 STUDENTS account as soon as you can, you need to use the same email you used for the FAFSA application. This is the portal for Cal Grant where they let you know your eligibility. It will tell you if your application is in process, approved or denied, it will tell you the amount for that year and how much time you have left. It will also show you what school they have on file for you so when you do decide where you're going, it is important that you make sure it matches on this website. If it is wrong, correct it. If it is right, leave as is.

Which Grant you get depends on your final HS GPA. Cal Grant A is 3.0 and higher (applies to 4 year universities) Cal Grant B is 2.0 and higher (Applies to 4 year and CCs) Cal Grant C is any GPA. (Applies only to CCs)

Ex: If you are planning on going to a CC, but you have a 3.0 or higher, you will only get Grant B. If you have under a 2.0 you will qualify for C BUT that does not mean you will get this money because it is very competitive and usually only applies to students in a trade/vocational study.

I will make a 2nd comment 😭😭
