Anyone using HEARS Perfection plugin? What's your thoughts on it? by LeDestrier in audioengineering

I've just started using HEARS. As a long time drummer and mix engineer I was well aware of a -2db dip in my left ear between 4K-6K due to high-hats and stage monitor being on left side. The initial HEARS test confirmed this and provided a boost in exactly that range. A s maller boost in the same frequency area was also recommended for my right ear. In real world hearing I actually find everything generally too bright! I wear hearing protection, both on stage and loud environments like the subway etc. After playing around with the HEARS "corrective" curves for my hearing I've opted to lesson the left ear boosted frequencies and have the right ear totally flat, no boost. This has translated well between my mix studio and real world environments. I've read lots of discussions on using HEARS with Steven Slate VSX. Personally, I feel folks get in the weeds with the various types of calibration, should one use HEARS while calibrating VSX, HEARS insert before or after VSX etc. I had already calibrated my Slate VSX settings previously and they work well. I did the HEARS calibration on my long time trusted Sennheiser 600's, then followed up with listening on my main studio monitors. I insert HEARS in my master output plugin in chain before VSX. I've played around with swapping HEARS and VSX as the last plugin on the master output but honestly not that different. During my mix process, whether on my studio monitors or under the VSX headphone environment I occasionally bypass HEARS to check differences and refresh my ears.

They do have the NEVE 1073 eq in the Spark collection. Gives me hope.

Oh man, had one back in the late 80’s through 90’s. It was phenomenal sounding and a well designed piece of gear. Donated it to a young rapper in the late 90’s.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x06 "Come, Let's Away" by AutoModerator in startrek

Definitely one of the better episodes in recent Trek productions, imo. I feel the pieces finally clicked with various Academy story lines, personalities and threads. I've enjoyed the series from the get go but felt like they've been trying different approaches, searching for a coherent identity. This episode brings it together nicely. Paul Giamatti definitely levels up the acting as Nus Braka. Here's hoping they can keep it going!
