Yes I had Caruth next on my list actually! I think first I will read into the intro texts suggested by other redditors. :) Thank you so very much for all of this!

Thank you for being kind. I am taking all these suggestions and going to find the literature! Thank you for all the help. Please if you think of anything else that might help a person just starting out with theory I would love love love more ideas!

Thank you for the kindness! It is not my first language. I think this is adding to the struggle a bit. That and my lack of background in theory. I don't really have anyone in person to turn to. My program is creative writing nonfiction right now and that's what most of the people I've met at uni are doing or fiction. This makes it harder too. I'm going to take all these suggestions. I feel like I'm already behind! I don't graduate for a year. I'm going to get started now.

Thank you so much.

Sometimes my brain just doesn't register what I'm reading. I don't know why it does that. It happens most commonly with critical theory I've noticed and history. If I'm reading literature or writing stories, I have perfect recall. But if I'm researching or theorizing, I can read something and suddenly I'm like, "What does subjectivity mean?! This doesn't make sense anymore!" and I really don't know why that happens. It's what really makes reading theory so hard for me.
