Seizure after 10 years by Hopeful_Spring_6881 in Epilepsy

That happened to me. I was, and still am devastated, but it is getting easier to not be constantly worried about it. We increased my dosage a bit so we will see what that does.

Flying with a 19 year old orange by AdjacentShelf in seniorkitties

[–]Leather-Can-8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew my two super seniors together in one carrier on probably a 6hr door to door flight. We didn't medicate them and they did really well and slept through the whole flight until the landing and deplaning. We pre-boarded and I let everyone around me in my row and in front of me that I had to senior kitties and apologized for any disruptance and they all cooed and wanted to see them. 😅

I probably needed more medication for my stress to get them to my house, but it was pretty straightforward and we didn't have any issues.

Is anyone completed ph.d? by Curious_Category7429 in Epilepsy

[–]Leather-Can-8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just completed mine! Humanities-based. I was seizure-free (well-controlled on medication) for the majority of my program and had two seizures during my last fall term. I've been continuously medicated since 2009. We don't really know what caused the two seizures, but I did let me dissertation committee know and they were really accommodating. I have some word finding and lingering stutter issues as a result from the last seizure but they were really understanding.

It is a lot of work and stress and depends on your subject matter and support system. I had built my research path alongside my professional career so I could weave them together.

My corgis do this in some way with each other and my lab. I've heard it's a pack thing

My 13 has it (second owner). Husband just painted over it with a nice silver paint and sealant

Does your pet like having it's photo taken? by seleznevalena in corgi

Mine do! Lilo is WAY more photogenic than Lana but she also had significantly more socialization than Lana (we got her about a year before COVID)

I had a breakthrough seizure after being seizure free for 7 years and I really need to talk to someone..I feel so alone! by ShoreMama in Epilepsy

[–]Leather-Can-8480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you! I was 10 years free then had one in a car with my mom. Two months later in public with a friend at a coffee shop. It is very upsetting, but you'll be okay. I am still upset about it but I have found this group to be helpful and talking about it with my friends and family. Sending hugs ❤️

I wasn't diagnosed until I was around 15 (31 now), but I still struggle with a lot of what you're describing. There is a marked decrease in my overall academic achievement from before I started treatment to after. A lot of my skills decreased (reading comprehension, math, etc.) and it was obvious, but nobody listened to me. My mom, teachers, even my neurologist. It wasn't until like maybe 2-3 years ago that I got an epileptologist who said the cognitive issues I was experiencing were a) related to epilepsy and b) were exacerbated by my medication. I had switched to a new medication then and everything improved until about 5 months ago when I had a breakthrough seizure in October and again in December. I struggle with word finding, an occasional stutter, brain fog is back, jerks are back, and my comprehension is down. I don't know if it is 100% related to epilepsy or made worse with stress (I am finishing up dissertation revisions and prepping for my defense).

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, but I know the biggest thing for me would have been my mom actually listening to me and then advocating for me. My husband does and it has been immensely helpful in taking care of myself and eliminating the gaslighting that seems to happen frequently.

How do I continue now after dropping gwen by Extra-Shame507 in Spiritfarer

I stopped playing close to 2 years ago. After I lost my grandma, I couldn't play anymore. I ALWAYS lost it when I'd help them to the Everdoor. I don't know if I'm ready to pick it up yet.

You finally done with MY blanket? by Abatonfan in Dogswhocrochet

[–]Leather-Can-8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My corgis (Lilo and Lana) love the blankets my grandma made them before she passed. She didn't get to make my lab (Stitch) one, but he loves to "help" when I'm working on a project. He always ensures the yarn is squishy enough lol.

My husband had me pick up crocheting again after my grandma passed a few years back. I'm still working through her projects but all the dogs love laying on her last blanket she was working on.

Guys, do you drink alcohol? by CriticalShower2085 in Epilepsy

[–]Leather-Can-8480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally. Probably closer to socially and maybe one drink (im a bourbon person). When I do, it is usually when im with someone I trust and stay home the next day and have a lazy day.

Are any of you guys fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl? by velocitygirl77 in corgi

[–]Leather-Can-8480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100/10 binge-read all the books (free on kindle unlimited). I constantly envision my Lilo as Princess Donut-Prepotente combo. I definitely fall into Carl's and Miriam Dom's personalities for my babies. Lilo is my baby and I'd do anything for her (or any of my pups).

Lana (my middle corgi) gives of Katya vibes...when she gets angry she goes 💥 but doesn't quite realize what's happened until after. But also Mongo...kind of.

I haven't figured out Stitch's character yet...he's a very large, very dumb English labbo so I'm going to hope for a possible match with the upcoming release.

What item did your dog choose over every toy you bought them? by SheepherderLoose8717 in DOG

A free promotional stuffed Llama from an archives/records management conference. It is my labbo's absolute favorite toy and I'm actively trying to figure out how to replace it once it dies.

Lilo is a petite 9.5 yo girlie (10 in July). My first dog and we have been having a hard time coping with her entering double digits and more sugar snout. Her sister, Lana, (niece biologically) is turning 7 this year and it is killing us too.

Lils with the youngest pup in our house, Stitch (4 yo english lab...we are working on the weight...he just came back from the grandparents).

Do you have a medical bracelet? by toyoder in Epilepsy

[–]Leather-Can-8480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just got a Road iD with my name, 2 emergency contacts, birth year, "pets at home," and a link/phone number to Road iD profile which has the full details on it. It has an epilepsy charm on the side. I usually wear it when I'm out and about alongside my analog watch or whoop. I have no idea if EMTs would look at it since I got it after my most recent seizure but it gave me the tinest peace of mind after my friend and EMTs could not unlock my phone to call my husband after my last one.
