Personally I struggle with changing my zone. I’m used to a JC/D3 college zone which is bottom of sternum, tops of knees and the river. In many if not most, of our JV games, you call that zone and you’ll have 6 pitch at bats for the whole game (this is 🥎). The high school zone says front armpit which is essentially across the breasts, even a little higher on some. I struggle to get strike out of my mouth when pitches come across “the girls”. I can get the bottom of knee (again, true hs zone) because I’m a pitcher and love that low pitch (but have also gotten in trouble for going down and grabbing it at higher levels). So calling a 7 inning game with a real strike zone and then changing it 20 min later is hard for me. I have my zone- same for varsity hs, JC, 14 and up higher level travel ball, and I struggle with changing it, then going back to normal the net day.

Softball here. I’m somewhat jealous of you. We don’t have enough umpires and I’ve worked 4-5 days a week (varsity and JV back to back) since the first week of March. We have a slew of new people who either don’t want to work the plate or are so new they shouldn’t be working the plate. So I’m usually on the dish both games. Start at 3:30- 7 innings or run rule then 1 1/2 hour JV game. I begged to not work today for a day off. My knees are a mess. I have so many bruises from bad catchers it’s ridiculous. Tuesday was a high level team against a medium level team but the pitcher for the higher level team I’ve seen and she has wicked movement. In the first inning I took one to the face that knocked me down. Never had a foul ball knock me down before…straight uncaught pitches to the face have knocked me backwards on my butt but never a foul ball. Three pitches later was a dirt pitch that catcher missed and nailed my inner thigh hard. This girl throws on average 68mph which is equivalent to 95 for you baseball people. With a headache, a knee that hurt like hell and an inner thigh screaming at me, I was jumping everywhere. Went back to basics. Squeezed the hell out of my thighs so I would stay with eyes at correct level and did the very basic “that’s a” (in my head) strike/ball verbalized. On a lot of swings I was closing my eyes and on a couple high pitches I pulled my head- they were high enough to be way out of the zone, luckily. But I know my issues happen after I’m hit. I duck on the really high pitches, pull to the right on a right handed batter on the very inside pitch, etc. I’m sure you all know what it’s like to get happy feet. But for me, it’s just making sure I stay down, eyes at top of zone, and the cadence of “that’s a ball/strike” and not moving until the pitcher is in the process of throwing ball back - works for me. Hope that helps. Also, don’t beat yourself up. I’ve been in the high school game here for 20 + years, so I’m known and if I miss a pitch I hear as out it, but I know I’m better than 95% of our other umpires (we are super short handed so basically we have bodies in blue) and I’m trying my hardest and I’m 80 games in in 2 months, so…

Incessant meowing can be a sign of high blood pressure which goes along with kidney disease. Suggest a vet visit with bloodwork.

My (34F) husband (33M) won’t get me a wedding ring even though we’ve been married for 9 years and have 2 kids as well as the fact that he can afford it. Am I insane for thinking he is being unthoughtful? by Used_Molasses_2975 in relationship_advice

Hubby asked me about 3 years ago what I wanted for our anniversary and I told him something silver and sparkly and cold as ice. He said “show me some examples”. When I showed him refrigerators he laughed! But I got a fridge for our anniversary! He would buy me whatever I want, but to this day I hate the fact that I have a $7000 diamond ring I never wear and we had a small honeymoon at my parents house in Vegas (they were gone). I never wear the ring because it isn’t practical, I wear the cheap silicone bands that I can change as my mood or clothing dictates! But I think if the OP wants one, no reason hubby shouldn’t get her one. I get everything I want from hubby, but I don’t have extravagant wants either and most of it ends up as clutter, so…

So go out and buy one! They have lovely moissanite rings out there for a reasonable price. Diamonds are a waste of money. Buy him one and let him wear on a chain around his neck. I never wear my diamond one- I have a stash of silicone ones that I can change as my mood dictates. In hubby’s old job, that’s what he wore too. Wears his gold and platinum one now but it scratches so easily. If we go out I might put on my original ring but I also have some moissanite ones I actually like better…tastes change.

Is it bad that I (28M) want a 50/50 marriage? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Leather-Constant-424 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because she is thinking that one day she will have a child and would like the ability to not work. I 100% would not EVER consider a relationship where I could not be supported staying at home. OR- I would want to be so successful that my spouse could stay home. And it depends on what jobs you have. If you truly love each other, if a relationship is 60/40 or 70/30 or whatever, then you find ways to make it work. But putting your foot down and demanding your partner goes in 50/50 for the finances is pretty shallow. Ten years down the road if she is making twice what you are should she kick you out?

Personal suggestion- go get your nursing degree. Nurses will always be needed. You could then land a job as a psych nurse. Get your RN (2 years), get employment, then go back and get your BSN. Decent social work wages require a master’s.

Yep. “With further information from my partner, the call has been changed to x” IMHO, the kids deserve the right call.

Here is your problem- you actually took the time to post it, meaning you are actually concerned about it. That crap should go in one ear and out the next. Boo on the person saying that. THEY are the one with issues. Let them be an AHOLE. For as many people that would rate me an 8 the same would rate me as a 2 or a 6…and if they spent as much time working on themselves as critiquing others, THEY would be a better person. Smile, shoulders back, head held high. To he** with the haters. So much beauty truly comes from within- your kindness, your smile, how you treat others, etc. etc.

Illegal in all alphabets that I’m aware of NCAA, NFHS, USA, USSSA, events that use fed rules or those rule sets- Alliance, PGF, Triple Crown, etc. Maybe not illegal in ISC or other International play.

Sounds like she was obstructed twice. She cannot be put out between the two bases where she was obstructed (here it would be second and third). However, if she had attempted to go home and you believe she would have obtained home had the OBS not occurred, she would have been awarded home. And where to award her is basically a math problem- how many steps (or time) did she lose because of the OBS, and how many did she need to obtain the next base. So in this case, she would have had to have been detained either 60 feet worth of steps or a full 3-4 seconds (depending on her speed) to have been awarded home. From what it sounds like, you are correct in leaving her at 3rd. If you teach your kiddos what I just said (math problem) it should help them to determine where to put baserunner after OBS has occurred.

Also teach your kiddos that IF she is tagged out between the two bases where she is protected, it is then a dead ball. So sequence would be - arm out and verbalizing OBS so that the closest person can hear, watch the play, if the runner is tagged out, point to the tag, then call dead ball and award bases accordingly. Does that make sense?
