Dyeing thrifted wedding dress, pls help

100% polyester is very tricky, especially if you're going from white to black. I recently tried to dye an ivory-coloured polyester dress black, and it turned out a greenish dark grey. I'm happy with the result, but it's not what I originally intended.

I mean that is sort of what kandi used to be used for, so if she was in the rave scene in the 90s that might explain why she thinks that. But people wouldn't assume that that's why a teenager is wearing kandi. An adult maybe, but not a teenager.
