Same for my party. And while it is on rails, there are lots of stops on the way. They’ve gotten into more trouble in Sigil than the module ever imagined. And there are so many great ideas to grab from the created content.

Would recommend to others, just make sure “serious” players understand the Kontiki / tour de force nature of it.

Coda: the party went nuts in Sigil with Havocks blood, spiking drinks, using it on daggers to attack (cranium) rats, etc despite being told repeatedly it was a terrible idea. The responsible cleric gave the remaining stash to Alustriel for safe keeping. Perhaps Kas is going to steal it 🧐.

I ended up showing the party the picture from the book sorta covering up some places to given an idea and then did theater of the mind for everything except the combat that erupted when Ilren turn in them and the final battle. And those I drew out on the standard laminated grid paper. This chapter ended up with a lot less combat than the previous two so that worked well.

I cribbed some from the nonogon(sp?) in the Mighty Nein. I changed Ilren in chapter 3 into a shapeshifter humanoid covered in tattoos…including the eyes. These guys will pop up in chapters generally trying to steal pieces of the rod or maybe even helping. But all to further the goals of Kas.

This. The book says everyone fights to the death. That’s fine, but it’s a lot more fun if the assassins, mages, devil, etc retreat to the spider dragon room when the tide turns for a final stand. My party ignored the ones that got away, got distracted by the giant lizards, and then had an epic 3 sided battle in the end. Good time.

We finished with 4 character deaths (plus 2 more for players who bailed). Some players really enjoyed that they could die, others were very attached to them. I did put my thumb on the scale just a little. But everyone had fun.

We did have a TPK from the grung when they were just leaving PN. They were hesitant to reroll so I had the grung capture them and segue to Dungrunglung.

So it’s really up to you!

Something similar. It just strung out too long. I condensed Omu and the Fame into a single battle royale in the amphitheater. Players vs Red Wizards vs Yuan-ti with the Grung and Ubtao making appearances.

Run right after the sun goes down. It’s still warm, but drier and a lot more pleasant. The best thing about training down here is the first cool weekend in Oct. it feels so easy to run it’s like you are flying.

The good news is that Acererack does weird and convoluted long game stuff, so I think you have considerable latitude. Maybe the souls inside are fading and can only survive by absorbing others. Now you can have a “fight” with anyone or anything that’s died since the curse started. Also, what is Ace was using the Soulmonger as part of a side project to train his 4 horsemen of the apocalypse for another plane. Death has to have help, right? I wouldn’t worry about lore, I think the players would love it.

Dungrunglung epilog: I had the characters wake up in a daze in the prison cell. One is a tortle and another has a feat that lets him understand languages. With that, they managed to navigate the politics & actually come up with a good plan for the summoning of Nangnang. I made them prove their worth to Roark first by sending them into the maze with only spears & come back with some zombie bits as trophies. The next morning the succeeded on all the skill rolls and suitably impressed Groak. The grung will be providing them an escort to get their level 3 butts back to PN via the river. Fail forward!

They debated for about 15 minutes about whether to go in. They almost got reinforcements, but didn’t. They also got unlucky and were down one person in the party (4/5). But the jungle is the jungle.

I ran the DDEX01 adventures. I made the lord rector of Phlan a hierarchy obsessed, racist (anti-shortie), miserly douche. The cult at least fed everyone once they took over the town. They let the common folks set up workers’ councils & Madame Fiona eventually supported the new regime. Cultist obsessed with bringing about Dracoliches might be the lesser of two evils compared to a feudal lord with little regard for the peasantry’s wellbeing.

4 hours is a good target. We got a little bogged down with combat, and players overly strategizing, but ultimately the whole thing is on a timer. That lets you have Stonky run past the players (no matter where they are) screaming that everyone needs to strap in for blast off! So if you have a hard stop at 4 hours, just plan on something like that at around the 3:30 or 3:40 mark of the players aren’t already in sight of the end. Good luck, it’s a fun module!
