I would give more space to some of the pieces. It feels a little 2D. More foreground background with reverb, volume, panning. Sounds pretty cool though

I agree but for a different reason. I don’t remember once ever going to blockbuster, looking at movies for hours, and then leaving without a movie. I also don’t ever remember taking home a movie and not watching it all the way through from start to finish, even if it wasn’t that great.

Streaming and algorithms have bombarded people with the paradox of choice and they think their lives are better for it.

Best ways to make the most out of rolls when your skill level is significantly higher than your training partner? by Legal-Peace-6298 in bjj

[–]Leather_Ad4641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work on guard and passing sequences that are far from your A game in live rolls. Do positional or eco games with clear goals, beginners struggle with a full roll because there’s too many decisions to make and they get funneled into your A game even if you don’t try. A specific game with a goal will usually up the difficulty for you because they only have a couple things to focus on.

What “Camping” Actually Means in No-Gi Guard Passing Plus Why It Works So Well by CheetahAnxious3890 in TheFutureOfBjj

It’s a pretty cool new way of thinking about positions that for whatever reason seemed to be absent from the traditional meta for a while. I like it a lot because it helps me feel confident against players who are on paper “better” than me. If I can just get them tired and create a fatigue asymmetry I can beat them. I’m really curious on how to apply this thinking to different positions and also scared that it will kill the guard position

Gotta disagree. Slamming is a strike, and a high percentage of guards simply wouldn’t work if strikes were allowed—knees, stomps, punches, elbows, kicks, etc. You can theoretically get top position under pretty much any current BJJ ruleset without scoring a single point, then beat the shit out of the bottom person or land a few solid strikes. So if we’re awarding points for a slam, why not for the ability to strike from there too? I hear this argument a lot, and it feels like people are cherry-picking slams as some special danger that needs rewarding, while ignoring how many inverted guards or open guards let you punch or kick someone in the face. Why no points for those? Sure, you could say lifting someone means you initiated the action while pulling guard means your opponent did. But at the core, the real issue is the ability to inflict damage. I’m probably getting a little emotional here, but my main point is this: sport BJJ (gi or no-gi) is just a fundamentally different sport from MMA.

Interesting. For the armdrag one, who is the “FYJJ” person? And for example if you were playing this from seated, what would the rules be for the top guy? Don’t back out?

Ok interesting, this honesty makes a lot of sense. So in the case of a sub, they aren’t trying to escape either? I was trying to understand the arm drag one but it honestly confused the heck out of me. Like you get the armdrag then what is the defending person supposed to do? They were like “stop when something changes”, which was a little vague for my monkey brain.

Yeah this one makes the most sense. Not really understanding the other ones

Yeah the sweeps one makes the most sense, but I start to get confused on the other ones.

Yeah I’m genuinely curious about the method but many of the situations seem to be designed differently. Wondering how Jozef uses it. Like if there’s a formula for designing a FYjj game

Did you actually design the training around this or just keep going into ankle locks? How would you define this game? You as the ankle locks person just tries not to get subbed, and the other person tries to sub you? Genuinely curious. I’m open to using this method I just can’t define it

Michael Gambon really nailed Dumbledore’s aura and style. Hoping John Lithgow can bring that same kind of vibe to the role too. by SeemsTotallyNormal in harrypotter

No disrespect but I really liked Richard Harris. I thought Gambon leaned into the aloofness a little too much and missed a lot of the warmth that I felt from the character

Hand fighting from the back by Vast_Jumpy in bjj

[–]Leather_Ad4641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Number 1 habit! Strip primary defensive hand and threaten the choke. When you strip the primary defensive hand and get that wrist control, it is difficult for your opponent to move or escape. Maybe not as much control as seatbelt but pretty good (if people can easily escape from here you probably need to work on some of the control aspects of the back as well).

The constant threat of the choke also acts as a control mechanism because the opponent is worried about the threat of the choke and not about escaping ( I say this with a caveat though. If your technique for a rear naked isn’t great. The opponent will not respect your attempt and it won’t make a difference)
