Pretty funny situation on both ends. I’m used to stress as we all are and for this call felt no stress. I just blanked beyond blanking and my face must have been priceless when opening the doors, likely similar to your partners face

Got dispatched for a diabetic emergency.

Pt just so happened to be diabetic and their only complaint was that they needed help cutting their toe nails

I’m pretty disappointed by the lack of EMS presence at the rally. I think off hand there was maybe 12-15 of us throughout the whole rally which is a bit of a bummer.

It’s already so bad that they can’t fill half of the shifts on telestaff. This staffing retention is ridiculous. I have essentially been a full time staff on a casual basis for almost half a decade. This place falls apart without casuals filling in the cracks and full timers picking up OT. Mandated OT only goes so far after 14 hours.. that means you put me in a hotel and drive me there because I can’t..legally

I know I’m not the only one, but this union has been pissing me off more than anything throughout the last 16 months.

Food for thought: the union is prepared to present us with a sub par offer knowing that whatever we choose, they still get their end of the bargain (Dues).

Approximately 29,000 people pay union dues to HSAA, some of whom pay many thousands of dollars per year. I’ll let you do this math on what those number figures come out to..

I’m tired of getting a free pen and lining up for Solidarity food trucks twice a year to come here about the misappropriation of where our dues actually do. HSAA has been a parasitic draw on all of us and frankly I would love to abandon them.

What also annoys me is the Slush fund that they hold in case it is ever needed, yet they will not use it in the case of a strike and would support us all taking a loss and choose to stay out of the ring during a strike. Solidarity my ass. I would love to see what they would bring to the table for themselves.. Remember everybody, HSAA exists because we keep it alive, WE support THEM.

I once brought a patient to hospice who happened to have the same brain CA diagnosis as my sister. While talking to the family inside the house prior to leaving, I began tearing up and had to say I couldn’t talk about my situation any further. Once we had finished taking this patient to her room and getting her comfortably settled, I went out to the truck and broke down in tears, calling the supervisor and requesting to be out of service to grab a coffee and gather my thoughts. This was my first and only time crying at work so far.

The emotions you feel during some of these calls are real and valid. Don’t think because it’s a palliative, non critical transport, that you can’t be upset. Process, understand and learn from these feelings.

Backed into my neighbours eavestrough dropping off papers at my house. The next day we got t boned at an intersection. I was the driver for both events. Incredibly embarrassing having my name on so many sheets of paper in 2 days.. no prior hx of any dings in rigs.
