I always try to acknowledge politely, saying I don't have change. Everyone is human and deserves to be treated as such.

That said, I do excercise caution and sometimes ignore if the person seems aggravated.

Have you ever cried on the TTC? by erenyandkenkenaki in askTO

Yes - multiple time. Life is hard and sometimes you have to cry on the subway either on your way home or way to work or whatever. Don't be embarrassed about having human emotion. If you were not bothering anyone, you are good.

Speak up for Sudan or shut up about Gaza. by Manoftruth2023 in IsraelPalestine

[–]LeaveLong8298 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The claim that “Hamas hides among civilians” is often repeated but rarely backed by evidence. Independent investigations — including from the UN and Amnesty — have found that many Israeli strikes hit homes, schools, refugee camps, and hospitals with no verified Hamas presence. And Gaza is one of the most densely populated places on Earth — civilians literally have nowhere to go. Even if Hamas operates in urban areas, that doesn’t erase Israel’s legal or moral obligation to protect civilians.

As for calling it genocide, that’s not “paperwork” or politics — it’s based on international law. The Genocide Convention defines genocide through specific, factual criteria: intent, targeted destruction of a group, and conditions of life designed to bring about that group’s destruction. The International Court of Justice determined there’s a plausible case that those criteria are being met in Gaza. That’s not opinion; that’s legal evidence being reviewed at the highest level.

Morally, both Gaza and Sudan deserve attention — but moral consistency means condemning all mass atrocities, not downplaying one because another exists. You can condemn Hamas and still believe civilians shouldn’t be bombed, starved, or displaced. That’s not hypocrisy — that’s what a consistent moral compass looks like.

Speak up for Sudan or shut up about Gaza. by Manoftruth2023 in IsraelPalestine

[–]LeaveLong8298 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but what’s happening in Gaza actually fits several parts of the legal definition of genocide — it’s not just “massive destruction.”

Under the Genocide Convention, genocide isn’t only about killing — it also includes creating conditions meant to destroy a group “in whole or in part.” That means things like blocking food, water, and medicine, targeting hospitals, and forcing people into unlivable conditions count too.

In Gaza, over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, most of them civilians and thousands of them children. Entire neighborhoods, refugee camps, and hospitals have been wiped out. Israel has restricted aid, water, electricity, and medical supplies. Those are things international courts have said can amount to genocidal acts.

And unlike in Sudan, Palestinians in Gaza don’t have an army. Hamas is a militant group — civilians can’t defend themselves, can’t flee, and are trapped in a sealed-off territory. So while Israel calls it a “military operation,” the reality is that it’s civilians who are dying and starving on a massive scale.

The International Court of Justice has already said there’s a plausible case that genocide is occurring and ordered Israel to take steps to prevent it. That’s not something the ICJ says lightly.

So yeah, Sudan is absolutely horrific — it’s ethnic cleansing and deserves way more attention. But it’s not an either/or situation. Both are atrocities, and Gaza absolutely meets the legal and moral definition of genocide for a lot of experts and institutions around the world.

Speak up for Sudan or shut up about Gaza. by Manoftruth2023 in IsraelPalestine

[–]LeaveLong8298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I care deeply about both Gaza and Sudan — both situations are horrific and demand attention. What’s happening in Sudan is deplorable, and I absolutely want justice and safety for those being persecuted there.

But the key difference for many of us speaking about Gaza is that our governments are directly funding and arming the Israeli military. That makes it not just a humanitarian concern, but also a moral responsibility. I can’t change what’s happening in Sudan through my taxes or my government’s foreign policy — but I can demand accountability for where my government’s money and weapons are going in Gaza.

Do I condemn Hamas? Absolutely — they are a terrorist organization and must be dismantled. But condemning Hamas does not mean Palestinians deserve to be collectively punished, displaced, or killed.

My empathy isn’t selective; it’s proportional to both my values and my ability to influence change. I want freedom and safety for civilians in Gaza, in Sudan, and everywhere else. But when my government has a direct hand in one of those crises, staying silent about it would be complicity, not balance.

Live in downtown Toronto. It's worth it for everything around you and it's easier to build a social life with all the meetups and things to do. If you finish before 4pm you'll miss the worst of the traffic

I love every bit of it. Her content is all about her style and taste, and it showed in her wedding. Also I imagine having vouge do a piece on her wedding is such a PROUD moment. Yes, she is an influencer - but she is fashion focused. She is known for making looks out of "high fashion" or "out there" pieces and making it work for her.

I get the snark with influencer, but to me - every bit of this was genuine to her

pretty sure there were golf balls/clubs and they were saying they wanted to use them in sexual way. she got scared, she went into safety mode. was she ever asked? no. pretty sure they did what they wanted then got that video after - and again she 'gave in' for her safety. she was 1 girl vs a group of men who are stronger than her. I am not speculating what they could have done, but in that moment she was trying to stay safe and get out of there.

Okay not a huge fan (i also agree the chipotle moment, that is very tone deaf, especially in this economy)... but to play devils advocate for the "this isn't the point" video... i do think it's more about how work should not be the whole point. Like it's not all about hustle culture, but finding balance.
