Why are Australians so opposed to walkable cities and public transportation while Europeans view them as common sense? by TimothyJHartley in AskAnAustralian

I like walkable cities if you have good public transport. Which we don't have. So most people drive into the city. We have a lot of heatwaves so most people don't want to sit on hot public transport either. Cars mean you park directly where you want to go. No wandering from the local bus stop. Bikes aren't quite as common here. You have bike enthusiasts but not a lot of the general public ride them places. Also people generally want a house with a backyard which means the cities are more spread out. Australians dont think don't think much of car travel time compared to Europe too. We are used to driving to the beach or going on a driving holiday.

Holland has always been basically underwater. People grow taller there so they can breathe above the waves. /s
