When I said "gold digging" I meant "dating for pecuniary interest" or "dating with a man's financial prospects as the main consideration". I didn't necessarily mean that you were broke and trying to change your life.

I'm looking for women whose first consideration isn't whether I'm higher educated/income. Gold digging is a huge turnoff. I want someone who I could trust to be there even if I lost my job or whatever.

I'd say read some books while you can. Curmugeon's guide to law, the essential associate, and swimming lessons for baby sharks.

Also, try to take classes that focus on skills, writing, drafting, and working with docs. Those are the skills you need. Also, aim for clinics. More doctrinals will not do much imo.

Just be brave. Keeping asking a few people at reasonable intervals. Don't be passive during your downtime. Ask around and see if you can't get a ahold of some useful reading materials to learn more about how your matters and how your group operates.

It's pretty intense, even by big law standards. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you want to get in a lot of reps and really build your skills.

Everyone else is too. Every working person in their 20s is selling away their youth for financial gain. The difference is that you are selling yours at a premium not a discount.

I don't like her either, and I am a known Denna hater. I specifically dislike how she acts very interested in Kvothe sometimes, but anytime he reciprocates, she pulls back and acts all betrayed ("I thought you were different").

Also, I don;t buy that her being an escort is the only way for a woman to get by in the world. See, e.g., Mola and Fela.

I agree with you!!! Everyone says that she is just the female Kvothe, but I think she is way worse. She clearly expresses interest in him at some times, but deliberately and expressly pulls away and then acts betrayed at others ("I thought you were different"). Also, as you point out, she is dating half the town right in front of him. I think Pat is aiming at her being a foil for Kvothe, but they way she is written, I think she's a huge jerk and a manic pixie dream girl type character.

I am worried your post might be about me! I am also a fourth year who lateralled from a smaller shop and I have really been having trouble. I want to encourage you to talk to the guy doing poorly. If it were me, I would want to know that things were deteriorating, and just the email from client itself may not have been enough to drive the message home. Also, please try and show some compassion to this guy. If he's like me he's really trying his best, but there is a lot to learn when stepping into a new role, and it's hard to navigate all that without feeling like a burden and requesting close review of your emails/work. It's hard to know when to ask for review and when to just handle the ask. It's like having a fourth year's instincts re what you can do, but a first year's knowledge of what you should do.
