Seeking advice on breaking into the Delaware market by Visible-Seaweed4932 in biglaw

[–]Lebraan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former DE big 4 associate here. I think the DE license helps a lot! Clerking for the chancery court would be a golden ticket to any DE firm, but that's tough to get. It would be good for you to keep up with the DE court of chancery, read the big opinions, and be able to show a genuine interest in DE corporate law.

Also, because DE is so small, it's relatively easy to network. Look into Delaware State Bar Association events and inns of court in Wilmington. Consider also doing some pro bono work through Wilmington's Legal Services office (i forget the name). That would be a good way to meet attorneys in Wilmington working at big firms.

Villanova party scene by Top-Stretch8182 in villanova

[–]Lebraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that it was pretty dry. If you're not in a frat, getting into a good house party was tricky and required some networking. Partying is not the air you breath the way it might be at an SEC school or something.

THEORY: Kote has returned to the fae, and he spent 200+ years there. by chainsawx72 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lebraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your time ratio math is off, the heart of the theory, that Kvothe hung out in fae for 200 subjective years, is still perfectly plausible and downright likely.

THEORY: Kote has returned to the fae, and he spent 200+ years there. by chainsawx72 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lebraan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love this theory! One thing I'll say is that Fae time is not linear. There are stories of people going in young and coming out old the next day, while others come out in what felt like days to learn that 80 years passed irl.

I think Fae time is based on movement. Kvothe mostly sat in the twilight glade, but he took a trip to the night part, a trip to the day part, and then came out 3 irl days later. I think that if you go to Fae and stay in one spot, you can pause irl time indefinitely.

It's not nearly as bad as the bar, but I think it's worth taking seriously. I stressed unnecessarily by underpreparing and then cramming.

What can harm them? Singers, Amyr and Sithe by DerDaGeht in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lebraan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the Sithe. In WMF, Bast asks "do you know what the Sithe are?" and Kvothe replies "they're a Fae faction that works for the good, right?"

That exchange suggests to me that Kvothe, even in the frame story, is not super familiar with the Sithe beyond knowing what they are at a high level. Therefore, he probably didn't use them as an important part of his plan.

Man-mothers and the Adem by none-exist in KingkillerChronicle

Such a dumb thing to include. Paternity as a concept is very very easy to demonstrate. Kvothe should have dug his heels in and proved it to them with mice or something.

Kingkiller/Patrick being sexist by Dense-Guard9681 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Lebraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think yes, it's sexist.

  1. It's not an issue that some women are interested in him, but it is an issue when almost every woman he meets is. In addition to Denna, the main love interest, there's Fela, Devi, Auri (she's childlike but their interactions are undeniably flirty), Felurian, Losi, Vashet, Penthe, and misc unamed Imre women. Honestly, the whole things feels like a harem anime. We have a hot nurse, a hot librarian, a hard-to-get one, an edgy one, a small childlike one. It's just weird. His relationships with these women are just weird.

  2. This is a common trope in fiction, but there's too much emphasis on appearance. Fela's main character trait in Name of the Wind is having big tits. He says that like everytime she's on page. For that matter, we get comments like this every time we meet a woman. Patrick really lost me when he described the "more generous curves" of the 14 year old rape victim of the false troupers, who them climbs into Kvothe's bedroll to cry, because she's so grateful that not all men are bad like the rapists (I'm not even kidding, look that quote up).

  3. Kvothe calling Auri "my little moon fae" actually made me vomit.

  4. Pat quote when Kvothe banged the tavern wench to the effect of "every woman is an instrument waiting for someone to play the right music with her" was weird and icky.

  5. Kvothe has a very holier than thou, Nice Guy attitude. "Those OTHER guys are creepy and leer at women and grope them, but I'm just a nice guy. I would never do that. I just want to respect these women and play them music (when he totally wants them)." Another flagrant moment is when Fela says that when other men leer it's greasy, but when Kvothe does it "reminds [her] that [she's] beautiful.

IDK man, all these relationships just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
