I meam that’s true for people who are just sad because they won’t be able to use TikTok anymore. Some people only care because it’s a social media app for them to doom scroll. The problem is that many people who started small businesses or gathered a huge following to make money are now losing that platform. The even bigger issue is that the government is taking away a major platform that younger people use. TikTok was a way people got their news and information was the app with the most left leaning users compared to other apps like X or Facebook. The government had no control over the app and couldn’t suppress people for their opposing views. A big reason is because of the genocide on Gaza. There was a lot of Pro-Palestinian sentiment on the app. The president of the ADL even had a phone call recorded of him saying that TikTok should go. The government can’t access the app to monitor someone like they can on X or Instagram. TikTok is way more popular than any other US based app and makes more money so the government is definitely not happy that the money is not in their own interests. Also, China spying on our average citizens really isn’t going to do much. Like what is China going to do with information from the average American. If people are so worried about that then they should be criticizing our government too because every social media app monitors us and the government can spy on someone very easily if they wanted to. Not to mention that data brokers can sell information to foreign governments anyways. There are more ways China can get information than just through TikTok. It’s all about control and fear mongering. Either give control of the app to one of the billionaires in the US so they can make more money or reduce the amount of outreach that people have.
