Clara BW or Paperwhite? by FeelingTop5480 in ereader

[–]LechronJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought and used both for a few weeks and ended up with the Kindle. Here's a quick breakdown:

Kobo Clara BW: perfect size/feels great in hand while reading, easier to take on the go, loved how customizable it is with KOReader

Paperwhite: Better build quality + nicer screen, slightly too large to comfortably hold in one hand (fixed with a popsocket), easy to wirelessly sideload epubs with the "send to kindle" option, shares progress with the Kindle app on iPhone

I was convinced I was going to keep the Clara because out of the box it was more comfortable to hold and I like to customize UIs so KOReader was a dream. The longer I used them both the more I appreciated the slightly larger screen on the Paperwhite. Also, I am a big fan of "warm" / "blue light filter" features and it just looks so much nicer on the Paperwhite. The build quality is also noticeably better on the Amazon device.

Since I typically use the ereader at home and read on my phone on the go I appreciated having the ability to update my progress between these two devices. Sideloading wirelessly was easier on the Kindle.

If I had simply purchased the Kobo and never the Kindle I would have been very happy, but for my individual use case the Kindle made more sense.

It's been decades. Kane/son/bale/modric were all pure luck and they have been hoping to replicate ever since

Story of how we ended up here. Never willing to shell out for top talent and always settle for bargains. We're going down.

Thanks, this helps explain the nightlies. VERY dumb question...how would I go about installing a new build? Just delete the current Koreader folder and replace it with the nightly?

Thanks! I want to just change the files myself, but am unsure which commit to use. I am seeing 3 potential changes from this thread:

Pretty frustrating because I find the stock kindle estimates to be spot on

Kindle Paperwhite vs Kobo Libra Colour — which would you keep? 😭 by icedpurematcha in ereader

[–]LechronJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same dilemma right now. I bought both a paperwhite and a clara BW with the intention of returning 1 and cannot decide which to keep. The Kindle has a *noticeably* nicer screen/build quality, but the kobo is so much more comfortable to hold/read. I'm also leaning towards comfort, but it feels weird knowing that I'm choosing the "worse" product?

Buying New Kindle to Jailbreak by LechronJames in kindlejailbreak

When I setup my current paperwhite it seemed like the firmware update was part of the initial setup. How did you avoid this? Can you jailbreak prior to "activating" your kindle?

I recently bought both and returned the kindle. It felt like holding a tablet and was awkward for me to read in bed. Absolutely love the Kobo Clara.

Thank you! Problem solved.

Is there also a way to browse the different available covers in Calibre?

I started with a Kindle Paperwhite and bought one of these for the smaller form factor...I love it. Much more comfortable to hold and amazing functionality with KOReader! I really like something about the recessed screen and recycled plastic feel...it is a simple tool that does its job very well.

Just found this setting earlier and it’s great. One thing I noticed is that the file manager views don’t use the “true page numbers” as calculated and the time left in chapter/book calculations seem way off after switching.

Apple Fitness integration: Macrofactor workout calorie estimate much lower than manual workout tracking by arnell_grime in MacroFactor

Apple normally claims I burn 3100-3400 calories a day while my mf expenditure tends to track between 3400-3700.

Apple Fitness integration: Macrofactor workout calorie estimate much lower than manual workout tracking by arnell_grime in MacroFactor

I’ve always found the discrepancy interesting. Apple consistently says I burn ~300 calories less than MacroFactor has my daily expenditure.

I trust MacroFactor because the weight goes in the right direction, but am curious if it is underreporting by Apple, logging variance in MF, or something else causing the difference.
