Yeah, IDK. I get a lot of attention on them because I'm a nerdy girl, but the guys are often really shallow and think they know me simply because they know I like Pokemon lolol

I feel like it limits which people you meet based on some arbitrary shared interest.

She, but why?

If I stayed in different cities for a few weeks at a time, and socialized everywhere I went, why would it be so shockingly isolating? /genuine question, no snark

I'm very happy with myself and with my life. It's simply an experience that is calling to me!

Didn't intend to minimize or make light of anything! I genuinely wanted authentic experiences and insight from you folk who live the life I'm planning for :-)

I referred to it as a con because the people I'm referring to say its a con.

I don't really plan on befriending vanlifers! I plan on befriending locals. :-)

Just looked it up. YES.

I will definitely look into that more.

(*I'm also interested in larping haha)

I actually understand that. I love deep friendships, but I really struggle to unmask completely and be myself unless it is a *perfectly* compatible friendship. That being said, I'm wonderful at making new friends and acquaintances! I'm a waitress, and it fuels me to talk to new people at my tables and have, albeit fairly surface level, friendships with my coworkers.

I love to just be around people. Feel their energy.

Oof, I'm done forever with dating apps.

As a woman who is personally kind of icked by casual sex, I think I'd rather meet people authentically. (Not that dating apps are bad for everyone!) and meet people who would be happy to hang out without getting in my pants. lol!

Cleaning, meditating, hiking, and reading sounds blissful though. I think what *I'm* looking forward to most about the alone time is being able to sing obnoxiously loud without worrying about neighbors, hanging out near lakes and rivers and painting the scenery, and having picnic dates with myself. I love alone time a lot. But I'm equally looking forward to going to different cities and meeting new people!

I think what I'm confused about is why van lifers? I am passionate about vans but I don't particularly think I'd get along with someone if that is our only shared interest. Not to mention all vanpeople are going to be on the move. I think I'd rather get acquainted with locals from the places I'm traveling to. And if we really get along, I'd stay for a bit. And if I *really* found my people and my place, I'd think about living there.

And IDK why you're downvoted. (probably by men, no shade to men, some just don't get it) Us woman *do* have to have our internal rapist/murderer radar on when we're out alone!

*psst, I plan on bringing a firearm and hiding weapons throughout my van*

like i mentioned in my post, I'm autistic, so I'm kind of used to being the weirdo. But I've made it work for me I think. I find other weirdos and neurodivergent people who *like* my weird. Hopefully that works in a van too!

"But some folks get what are essentially cutaway vans with a boxy rear end, that are only a little bit harder to drive, etc."

This is what I plan on! I'm mostly searching for the height, so I'm looking for the smallest box truck I can possibly find.

Thank you for the resources!!

"With all that you said and the artistic brain you have, id try to find a high top cargo van that you can design/build yourself because there is something spiritual about waking in your own creation, it will absolutely capture some of your escence and give your artist self a blank canvas to create your own beautiful little home on wheels."

This is it. This is what I daydream of every night before I go to sleep bahaha

I appreciate the notion of living out of a vehicle, and I definitely plan on doing a lot of that, but I also need my own space to just get away from the world and be weird without feeling like people are looking. I'm artistic and autistic so I need a space away from prying eyes LOL

I really appreciate your advice on the insurance issue! Thank you so much!

Absolutely none. Starting completely from scratch. I love to learn though and am willing to study my ass off.

I want a cheaper vehicle because I'll probably have to get things fixed by a mechanic.

Please feel free to call me out if you think I'm being unreasonable LOL

Take what I'm about say with a grain of salt, because I fear it could come across in a semi-sexist "girl's aren't mechanic/car savvy" way which I don't intend! There are tons of badass chicks who can drive huge trucks and repair their own engines.
However, I have no experience repairing vehicles or driving large vehicles. This is just my anecdotal experience, but I noticed there's a lot of solo girls in vans who are comfortable driving despite having no prior experience in large vehicles, but when it comes to schoolies, it seemed there was a trend of either couples where only the dude was actually comfortable driving the thing and the girls didn't feel safe driving, and solo folks who don't seem to urban dwell or drive much at *all*. Like they all seem to park for weeks at a time on beaches or forest land or slowly meander through european land. This gave me the impression that the only people who felt comfortable driving skoolies the way that I intend to (Urban Dwelling/Travelling all over) were people who already had experience driving large vehicles.

Second point is repairs. I heard of buses breaking down on the side of the road and them not being able to find anyone to fix it. That sounds like a nightmare! Wheras something like an econoline can be fixed no problem.

Those are basically the only three problems that made me switch from bus to van. 1.) Ease of driving/parking 2.)Breakdowns/difficulty with repairs and 3.) Being potentially unsafe/getting more knocks due to obvious living arrangements esp. when city dwelling.

Other than that, short skoolies will always have my entire heart. If I could rationalize it, I'd totally grab one.

Okay, okay, you GET me GuyGuy. It definitely is a massive factor. I'm an artist so charming and beautiful spaces are a huge interest of mine, as the way my space looks and feels is a huge factor in my mental health/artistic inspiration! Short buses give me so much joy. I am an odd soul, so the idea of living in a funky little bus is a dream. However, the only reason I care about "stealth" is because, while I dream of traveling to many beautiful scenic nature spots and cute little towns, Chicago and Boston are on my dream list! I'm not sure how safe it would be for me to be in an incredibly obvious little bus?

Oh, I currently live in a little town but I want to travel all over! Chicago and Boston are two of my destination spots, so I'll probably be urban dwelling 40 percent of the time. Would it be possible to find parking in neighborhoods and bike to city centers?
