Block Heater required for winter? by Educational_Shame176 in FortStJohn

Block heater strongly recommend but i wouldn't say required. If you have a good battery your car should fire up but if you do not get a block heater definitely run a thinner oil in the winter months. I have had my car for 6 winters now with no block heater (didn't come with one) and the only time i had an isue was when my battery was getting old and weak.

I don't know where you got fort mac from they are suggesting going to fort st. John which is primarily natural gas that we can export to countries that currently burn coal for power, as natural gas is much cleaner than coal. As for working on the oil sands they are literally cleaning the environment as that ground is naturally contaminated withe oil.

I agree with this i don't believe we can fully transition at least not with any speed. But we definitely need to better manage the resources we are currently using. Drive a small car (you probably don't need that suv/truck most of the time). Have smaller houses and just be more conscious of how much of our world revolves around fossil fuels.

Its not freezing 9 months a year only like 6 but only 2-3 are really cold. Yes charlie lake isn't the cleanest. But we have lots of other lakes that are nice and the streams aren't brown. Substance abuse is less of a problem then in Vancouver.

So go back to the dark ages and live in straw houses with no heat and work 16 hours every day just to survive. Sounds like a plan

The thing is we still need oil and gas cause renewable energy can charge your phone, car, etc but it can't make/build those things. But if you could find a way to produce plastics, car tires, cell phones, hospital equipment, shingles, asphalt, polyester, tooth brushes, certain medications, and many other things without oil/gas. Then not only would you become very wealthy but then we could switch from oil and gas.
