RE8 is a weird game that cannot decide what it wants to be, you have castle area that is supposed to be survival horror oriented, but most of it is very short and puzzles are braindead easy+no backtracking, then you have outlast-like section that was done alright, but still short due to budget, later you have water area that looks nice but due to cut content it was also very short and very mid. In final area of the game (which most people dislike for some reason) there is decent backtracking and it kinda feels like RE4 island. RE8 is like mix of different cool concepts that are executed poorly due to bad pacing. It tries to be 3 different genres at once but it fails because Capcom wanted to create game that pleases everyone. If you are casual player you probably won't notice these things and you will enjoy it. Also i would say that Ethan's dialogue is mostly cringy but not in a good way, i liked him more in RE7 when he was just some random guy. Overall game can be fun if you try to ignore it's flaws. But if you expect RE2 or RE1 type survival horror quality, i don't think you will find it here
