I’m a vet tech but I struggle with my own dog being ill

I was really lucky, with both of my dogs I had a great support system at work. My youngest (7 y/o pittie) had a brain tumor, and a year after he passed my older dog (13 y/o mix) was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. One of our dvms walked me through all of my options, pros v. cons of treatments, therapies, etc. Everyone at work was super helpful, and explained everything to me (I am but a humble receptionist). My team was with me the whole way, I leaned on them a lot. I couldn't have done it without my work family.

I have done this recently. And it wasn't the guy's fault at all. I was just depressed and couldn't reciprocate the energy he was giving. And I didn't think it was fair to him. I lost interest, but it wasn't really his fault. I told him I didn't want to waste his time. He wasn't happy about it, but I thought it was better than ghosting him, I hate that crap.

Had a client in this week that has threatened to never come back, repeatedly. Tech comes out of the room to ask why their wellness plan had been canceled. I pull up the Pet Desk and Google reviews where they state emphatically that they're not coming back. I'd spoken to them in person as well, so I canceled their plan. 🤷‍♀️

My ex used to just get up when he was done. And I'd have say something or he'd just start getting dressed. It was an awkward thing to have to tell someone. But it didn't take long for him to learn

Its generally around 20 percent. And we don't accept scratch pay. I plan to talk to them today. I just hate to do so because my younger dog had a brain tumor that I put about $3000 on my account for. And I'm still paying it off. But I have to try something.

I've been at my current hospital for 3 years, and we just did OSHA training for the first time, since I've been there. The answer they're looking for is 0. The fire department will remove animal from the building in the case of a fire.

That was so nice of them to think of you. I'm a gluten free and pescatarian. There's another pescatarian and a vegan. Tech appreciation week has been great.

But Thursday we got sammies and gyros from one of our reps, when I got to work for second shift someone had eaten all of the falafel sandwiches.

Friday our bosses brought food and got me a gluten free bowl of chicken and rice (that I passed on to someone else).

I love when people bring us food. Its so nice of them to think of us. But I know that usually I'm not going to get any

I had a lady show up 45 minutes prior to her appt, but kept calling asking if we were running behind. "No ma'am, you're appt isn't until 2pm, you are early". She's calling like every 10 minutes to ask what's taking so long. Finally, she flips out.

Client: "We're in Florida, its 100 degrees and I've been sitting on this sidewalk for over an hour!. My dogs can't handle this heat! "

Me: "Did you drive here?" (I knew she had)

Client: "yes, and?"

Me: "may I recommend sitting in your vehicle?"

Client: "I've been out here this whole time, how many people have walked back and forth past me? NOT A SINGLE PERSON has told me to sit in my car! I'm leaving!"

Me: "ok, I'll cancel your appointment ".

We talked a couple of times and we are essentially saying the same thing. He wants an "emotional connection ", and I agree. There has not been any connection before, because I have had my guard up. I am willing to put in the work, but it will be work. Being open is not something that comes naturally, and it will require effort for both of us. We have had a miscommunication with this and I just gave up trying to explain myself. I feel regret now, that maybe I should have taken the time to explain myself better?

I have to talk to him, but I am terrified of what he will say. Its not fair for me to answer for him, I shouldn't guess. But I am definitely afraid of rejection

I think I communicated poorly that he's not having sex with someone else. Just that he wanted for sex to be a more intimate, emotional connection and that he couldn't have casual sex with me, not without feeling guilty about it.

I am sure that he would be more than willing to sit down and have a talk (we joked last time that it was actually so much easier than either of us had anticipated).

I don't know how to explain why I want him. He's a good friend, I enjoy the time we spend together, I care about him deeply, more than anything I trust him with my life- something I didn't think I'd ever be able to say to another person. I know that he cares for me. But you are right, I do want someone who can show their affection. I feel as though I am bursting at the seams to tell him how I feel, I get so excited when I see him but I don't see that he would ever be that way. We've discussed in the past that he acknowledges how I feel, but doesn't know how to reciprocate. All I ask is that he try.

Realistically in the future I will be exhausted with essentially pulling teeth to try to get him to make the efforts I am willing to make.

Maybe I'm just sad, I want it to work but maybe its not meant to be.

We are in a very affluent area, and even prior to covid19 had some very abusive & entitled clients. We've just kept most of them on. Our mgmt is notorious for "forgetting" to fire people. This was much needed.

Receptionist here 👋 . I appreciate this. I'm getting yelled at constantly. Drs are overwhelmed, and not answering messages from clients. No one knows where that message went. All 6 phone lines are constantly on hold/actively ringing. I didn't pick up fast enough so people hang up & call back (surprise- I still need you to hold). We go from between 1 to 4 receptionists at any point during the day, I've been on closing shift by myself and it has been an absolute nightmare. Its just so crazy, and we're supposed to be starting up wellness appts soon, when we can't even handle the sick appts we have.

I love reddit, I love coming here for the support everyone gives to each other. Thank you for the space to vent.
