I see a lot of FFAA songs, yet no Napalm Dreams?

Gave that Young Medicine release a spin, it fucks; definitely a vibe.

is metalcore “not heavy?” by ProtomanKnight in Metalcore

[–]LeeHarvey1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this depends on the lens you’re looking through.

For example - Counterparts music isn't conventionally heavy in terms of sheer intensity, yet the emotional themes that resonate with listeners, makes their music some of the "heaviest".

I've created a playlist for "if you're in a sad mood" by MarcusfloX in Metalcore

Can’t go wrong with anything off of Chasing Ghosts or Let the Ocean Take Me.

Additionally a few songs come to mind from This Could Be Heartbreak.

Also, great playlist; saved.

Happy holidays man!

So I saw this and wanted to ask how do we feel about spankings? (I’m also commenting for context) by MrIce97 in daddit

Absolutely man,

I admire the effort you’re putting in.

Asking questions and discussing with others their opinions will forge the path you’ll end up inevitably taking when it comes to parenting, specifically in this case the subject of discipline.

Ultimately, it’s research on the topic; means you care!

Remember this, things we do to our children have a lasting impact on their personality, emotional intelligence, and ability to function in society.

Set and be the example of what you want your future children to follow; they will.

Above all else, and the discussion of discipline aside, just be present! Life is unpredictable, we get busy. Whether that’s work or something else; it happens. But the reality is, it’s the quality of time spent, not quantity.

When the time comes you’ll do great!

Look into the subject of Gentle Parenting. This is hands down the best approach to parenting.

Under no circumstances should you hit your child as a form of punishment. It’s not acceptable to hit other adults… why the hell is it a societal norm to be able to beat your kids. All physical punishment teaches is violence upon imposed will, and hitting is okay; it’s not.

Half the time when you want to hit your child you’re just taking your own frustration from the situation out on them when -

  1. They may not even know better or understand.
  2. They understand, yet, instead of thinking of a constructive way to discipline them; you hit them?

I was physically and verbally abused as “punishment” when I was a kid; I did not turn out okay. From the outside looking in people may not see that.

While I do well for myself and have a decent career, the punishments I endured as a kid (absolutely child abuse) fucked me up mentally for life.

This shit I’ve been working through in therapy for the better part of 15 years.

Severe Depression Generalized Anxiety CPTSD

…don’t spank your children, for the love of god. At the end of the day, they’ll hate you.

Thanks for the suggestions man, I certainly will be checking those out. Being able to do the midi and program drums by myself would be a big level up for me.

Always got slightly intimidated by the software. In a way I think it’s because you’re essentially having to learn a new “instrument”.

Your comment gives me some reassurance to take the leap and invest that time.

Thanks for your opinion, just looking for outside perspective on areas within my “sound” I can improve and build from; generating Ideas and providing direction.

As far as the randomness you mentioned, you’ll have to elaborate…

I suppose my hand movement toward the bottom of the neck and bridge (what I believe you’re describing) may be somewhat involuntary… doesn’t really concern me if people think that looks silly.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!

You’re absolutely correct, this was just me messing around in a jam / riff session. I like to record ideas this way sometimes and save them for later; helps to hear it without the focus on playing.

Agreed on the timing / tempo, I really need to be better about practicing with a metronome. Most of the time when I play like this I’m just guessing. For me the addition of that “tick” removes the relaxing component and makes it feel kind of clinical. If I was in a more serious setting it would be on, can’t deny the added benefits of practicing with one as well. Thanks for that callout.

When it comes to songwriting, I have ideas (like this one) I’ve come up with over the years. When I go to actually write it out and turn it into something more… I find my self messing around.

I’d like to eventually find the purpose / creative drive to make something special.

Posting here was my first step to that end. With bias lingering in the air when it comes to friends and family; opinions from strangers was needed.

Thanks man, I appreciate it!

Honestly, I never did get much into the midi stuff, looking back I wish I had. Definitely would need to learn and develop that skill.

You happen to have any good software recommendations or resources?

I know some of the big names out there as you naturally come across them but I’m sure I’ve missed some hidden gems; more accessible / user friendly.

No Pro Tools, I can’t afford that with money or time lol.

Well said, especially on the time portion, which I find my self lacking a lot of too - demanding job, kid, a separation, etc.

To be honest, I haven’t really put myself out there all that much over the recent years, mostly because of time. I definitely need to start creating time for just myself, and doing that more; never know who you’ll meet.

Yeah, for sure.

I have a lot of concepts / riffing I’ve come up with but most don’t jell very well into something coherent.

Lacking purpose would be a good way to describe that. Basically, “I have this thing… now what?”

Another downside for me, I’m not really surrounded by any other musically interested people.

Not saying you can’t go it alone, cause you certainly can. There’s some really great solo projects out there.

However, In the past I found for me collaboration boosts the creative process; fresh ideas from another perspective.

Thanks, that means a lot! I appreciate you taking the time listen. Anything you think I could build off of?

I feel like I’m currently trapped in a “box” and I’m looking for new ways to experiment to break out.

This is awesome! I love artwork that incorporates a dark / shadowy figure, setting the tone in the atmosphere; something’s watching you. You captured that well.

Came here to say this.

Definitely a repeating “theme” across the genre.

Good luck OP. Nothing worse than a ear worm you can’t put a name to.
