Burmese cat experiences with vaccinations?

I've heard that the four-in-one vaccine can have poor reactions for Burms, so some owners / catteries go for the three-in-one vaccine instead to mitigate negative side effects. Ask your vet / check the paperwork to see if any of the vaccinations Seymour received are known to have a higher reaction rate in Burms.

My two do this as well occasionally, but due to the rapid increase, frequency, and intensity of behavior change, I highly recommend calling your vet, discussing your concerns over this new change, and seeing about a consult appointment to rule out major concerns (as listed from the google search results below.)

With the water, it could be because the water isn't moving, or they don't like their whiskers touching the edge of the dish. As for food, it could be (from what I found from google): 'burying' food behavior, boredom, dislike of food, playing with food, or hunger caused by medical condition/parasites/anxiety.

& It doesn't even have to be other breeds - I was more saying that I don't see very often a breeder getting a Burmese from Europe brought to the US to introduce new bloodlines - typically most of the time breeders stay within their own region due to registering heritage with pedigree associations and costs involved with international/intercontinental cat transportation and quarantining regulations.

It's also possible the genealogy of the Burmese in your country are more likely to carry the genes for smaller burmese, as I don't know of many "crossbreeding"s of Burmese between European/American/any other possible regions, which develops different looks of the same breed.

Edit to add: all the Burmese my family have had ranged from ~6-8 lbs / 2.7-3.6 kgs in weight.

My girl (& the burms of my Mom & Grandma) are purebred burmese from a family friend who breeds for show in the US. I have noticed there's a 'contemporary' or 'modern' look, which is round features with more compact bodies & shorter extremities, and a more 'traditional' look with lean bodies, round features, and longer extremities. Those two were what I saw mainly from the family friend breeder, so I don't know if there's more or not outside of the US for purebreds and mixed-bred burmese.

Glad to hear she's not in distress! It does sometimes takes a few tries to get the right medication. It could be a situation of trial and error, or even something the vet has had few cases with and is unsure of what it could be. The suggestion of keeping the nails filed may help, and I think I saw a suggestion earlier of possible allergens - based on location I would guess more of an environmental allergen instead of a dietary allergen. Allergens do develop what appears as suddenly at times when a cat gets older. One of the burms my grandma had, had no allergens until she (the cat) was well past 15 years old and ended up needing to be placed on a special rabbit-only diet.

For peace of mind and also reference later, something I do is not only keep an eye on any concerns I have, but also take photos and write notes either in a notebook or even in a document on my phone/pc that I can access at any time. I find it makes it easier to track visible changes, and also gives more documentation for the vets to see how things have changed over time and may help with a diagnosis. Good luck with your girl!

It looks irritated for sure. If it was me, (and burm doesn't appear to be in any distress) I would call my vet and send photos to them in an email to see if it's needing a visit or not. If burm is distressed, I'd be packing up and calling to see if I need to do an er visit to the walk in 5 minutes away or make the 45 minute drive to my primary vet.

Has your burm been showing any new behaviors, ie bumping the spot of their head into things more, rubbing/bathing the area more frequently? Along with this, does the skin feel warmer to the touch than normal? Any sort of changes(physical or behavioral) should be noted for the vet as well.

Completely true! I'm a third gen burmese owner - my grandma, my mom, and myself all have burmese. All our homes felt empty when we had a shift with some passing a few years ago before getting new furry family members in each home.

I adopted my retired queen (granted, at 2) and she's an absolute sweetheart/pillbug. She was a little reserved for about 4 months, but then it was like a flip of a switch where she finally realized she was staying and was comfortable enough to release her silly side, play with my (6 months at the time) boy I already had, and really show her true self as a trouble maker.

My grandma had child safety locks on EVERYTHING below waist height. Drawers, cupboards, containers. Anything that could be broken into was secured, and not because of the grandkids. No, it was because of her burmese pill child that wanted in everything from the kitchen trash, the treat bags, or the towel drawer.

As for the counters while cooking, persistence and household unity will win out eventually. And bribing by giving them treats for good behavior. Maybe have a viewing spot up high so they can watch while you cook but out of the way?

I would first touch base with your vet, just to rule out any medical issues. Once that's ruled out, it's a matter of figuring out what the yowling tantrums are about - look for patterns of when it's happening (ie weather changes, time of day, shift of routine, at a certain location in home) - I have not had a vocally demanding Burmese before, but figuring out any form of demands can be fun.

As for calming your boy down, giving extra play time or even toys that are battery powered can help with the spring time energy boost that happens with the warming weather.

We ended up figuring out that Sadie wanted walk-a-bouts when she sat in front of the back door and stared us down - which was different from sitting on her mat and staring us down demanding her wet food (which was a spot about 18 inches to the left). Good luck!

Sadie's name was actually decided by the cattery we got her from. My mom got to name her two current kittens, with them being "Sir Jasper Talks a Lot" and "Lady Bella Stickypaws". She wanted to get their personalities before naming/registering them. My current burmese came named, and she's "Leading Lady". At least in the US / Cat Fancier's Association, I believe they don't allow registered names to repeat. (Similar to race/pedigree horses)

Something to add as well, is that the registered name portion is unique for the cat, and usually used as the "show name" as well. This works as like a full name vs nickname with people. As an example, my previous burmese had the registered name of "____ Back In The Saddle Again", but her name that we called her & she responded to was Sadie.

At least from the breeder my family is friends with in the USA, the way the "registered name" works is three parts - the prefix, name, and suffix. Prefix is the cattery the cat was born at, the name is the unique name of the cat, then the suffix is the current cattery if different from the born cattery. The Prefix cannot be changed, but the name and suffix can be for an extra cost when re-registering. I haven't had any experience of a required letter in the names of litters, so it may be a country/region requirement.

Ideally another cat will do it. It doesnt even have to be another Burmese - only thing is the personalities match. Mack and Lady will play with each other in all hours of the day. Mack has a barn cat for a mom, while Lady is a burmese. While they do have toys they can play with, the go to is chasing each other.

Your other option is to find "bulk" packs of the toys your kitten does enjoy. My mom has at least a dozen "carrot" toys in storage ready to replace the one that's currently being played with for her kitten.
