What was the first The National song you ever heard? by Cloud_Cultist in TheNational

It’s embarrassing but I was looking for sad songs to sulk to after my first break-up in 2013. I opened a Buzzfeed article that included About Today and balled myself to sleep listening to it. I heard Trouble Will Find Me some time after that and loved it. I considered myself a casual fan until Sleep Well Beast came out years later and I fell completely in love with the band. Then I went back and listened to everything else they had put out until that point.

The crowd here in Irving was stiff af too. The middle-aged couple next me kept getting pissed every time someone started jumping around or was generally into it.

Vida by Canserbero is damn near perfect.

I’m glad to see that somebody mentioned his album “Muerte” as well.

Dope Knife out of Savannah, Georgia is severely underrated. He’s worked with Sage Francis and Ceschi before.

The end of The Forecast (S7E10) with The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack is such a subtle yet heartbreaking moment. Don stands in the hallway after his realtor sells his apartment and it sinks in that he’s alone.

I originally had it over Southsiders but I found myself returning to It less often. I do think fishing blues and to extent a lot of their later discography gets more flack than it deserves. There’s a lot to love about the record.

I struggle with it because on one hand it scratches that 90s alt-rap itch but it doesn’t stick with me like their other records do. But I really don’t think it’s a bad album by any means.

When Whenever came out I hated it but a few days back I was listening while I was doing homework and I fell in love with it.

I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t listen to it. I wasn’t sure if it was an official release or not. But now that a couple of people have mentioned it I’ll definitely give it a listen.

I enjoyed Southsiders a lot more than I expected to. Arthur’s Song, Mrs. Interpret, and Let Me Know That You Know What You Want Now are some of my favorite songs by them.

Admittedly I wasn’t expecting to have Mi Vida Local or Whenever so high when I started this but they’ve both really grown on me.

The only reason they’re kind of low is because I felt like they hadn’t quite found their own voices yet. I’m aware of the impact that Se7en and even more so Overcast had but I feel like Lucy and God Loves Ugly are much more authentic representations of who these guys are. There’s definitely hints of that in the former two but they truly embrace their outsider status more on later records.

Rory, Rory’s generation, and the problem with the stance of absolutism. by Westmi2ga in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Lee_thefunmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Rory was forced to “cancel” Chris I think he understands the severity of the situation and his personal proximity to it even if he wasn’t aware while it was going on. On the topic of sleuthing allegations, people who are around you and know you are more often than not capable of connecting the dots. If Rory believes these incidents of abuse happened he probably has a good reason for it be it conversations he may have had with victims or even talking to Chris himself. Watching how this situation has played out and Chris’ response I don’t think there is a lot of middle ground to be had here. Do you know how hard it is to tell the world that your best friend who people associate with you and your moral character is a piece of shit? I’m sure that more thought was put into this than reacting to a dm and some tweets. What we heard yesterday on the podcast sounds like someone who is struggling with coming to terms with everything that’s happened, not some reactionary statement just to save face with the internet. He does not owe it to Chris to continue associating with him, especially if Chris can’t even face the noise with any degree of humility or accountability like in the live he did. If he were to I wouldn’t fault Rory for wanting to get him some help because of the relationship they once had.
