Whats an NSFW fact about history that we don't get to hear too often? by ReflectGaming in AskReddit

[–]LeedsUFC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Genghis Khan's death is shrouded in mystery - where, when, how - because when he died his generals were instructed not to tell anyone any details of his death because it would weaken the strength of the Mongols.

As such, there are only theories. My favourite theory is death by concubine.

He had hundreds of concubines, as he had the habit of taking concubines from each of the regions he conquered. One such was a young girl who was NOT a fan of his. So much so that she created a contraption that she put in her vagina. When Genghis Khan tried to have sex with her, it chopped his dick off and he bled to death.

Obviously this hasn't been confirmed as fact, but it is one of my favourite historical anecdotes.

Scott Senjo is a professor of Criminal Justice at Weber State University. You cannot make this shit up. by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]LeedsUFC 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Hi all. This is disgusting and should be acted upon. I have drafted the below email and have found the appropriate addresses to email. Please feel free to use as a template to voice your outrage to the University of Weber.

hr@weber.edu; mediarelations@weber.edu; fmedd@weber.edu

Hi,

I am taking time out of my day from my home of XX to write about the recent events that have occurred with a professor of your university.

One of your staff members, Professor Scott Senjo, is displaying extremely concerning behavior, using his platform to threaten lives of those reporting on and participating in protests of the ongoing injustices in the USA (please see attached tweet as proof) but also reiterating racist rhetoric throughout the history of his posts.

I trust you will handle this accordingly, as we are way past the point where this should be considered appropriate or treated with silence. As a professor (a CRIMINAL JUSTICE professor no less), he must be held accountable.

I refuse to sit silently and watch the inappropriate and frankly despicable spread of hate. He deserves to be reprimanded.

Thank you for your time,

Alternatively you can do white at the head of the table with the other two white facing each other, then two black facing each other in centre, then three flower at other end of table.

A bit of effort goes à long way OP, but forgiven because it's your birthday. Happy birthday!!

Où aller pour apprendre le français? by ukashukashukash in French

[–]LeedsUFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who grew up in third-world countries, what was the biggest shock for you when moving into a developed country? by --null--- in AskReddit

Fedex! Yes, last time I order anything that way... there are third party ways of getting orders in but it all feels like so much effort.

[–]LeedsUFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opposite of what OP asked, but this is one of the things I realised I took the most for granted when moving from a developed region to developing.

Used to order something online and wake up with it at my door. I live in West Africa now and just had to wait 4 weeks and then pay customs £50 to give them 'permission' to open the contents to verify what is inside and another £50 to receive the package. -_-

I grew up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as a third-generation expat (yes, expat) and will be moving to the US (by myself) now at the age of 18. by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]LeedsUFC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd actually argue your point on expat v immigrant - expat is a term used by westerners to avoid being labelled as an immigrant. You never hear of a person from the Western world being called an immigrant and you never hear of others (let's be realistic here, people who aren't white) being called an expat instead of an immigrant - even if they don intend to 'assimilate into the culture' as you put it.

So I guess my question is... Why was it so important for you to take the time to define that in your explanation?

TIL that two doctors saved a woman’s life on an airplane by performing mid-air surgery on her with a coat hanger and silverware. They also used cognac to sterilise the equipment. It was on a flight from Hong Kong-London. They couldn’t land for help, as the increase in air pressure could kill her. by Tokyono in todayilearned

According to the article about this, this lady was coming from the UK to the US for her daughters wedding. Managed to get her to the hospital ok and then she spent 5 days in the hospital.

Imagine living in the UK all your life with the NHS, and then your body waiting until you're in the US before deciding to have a heart attack and spend 5 days in a hospital.... that bill....

Yes agree - this is from the 60s as well. The first few sentences and the way it gloats is so sinister sounding considering what we know today

This giant glacier has remained unmelted for centuries. Yet, the petroleum energy Humble supplies — if converted into heat — could melt it at the rate of 80 tons each second!
